Nettes split games with Sands, Post Thursday in Lamesa

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team split their games on Thursday on the opening day of the O.W. Follis Basketball Tournament in Lamesa, as they beat Post, 88-32, and fell to Sands, 40-32.

The Nettes moved to 1-1 to open tournament play on Thursday.

Against Plains, Sudan jumped out to a, 20-13, lead in the first quarter, and outscored the Lady Lopes, 24-5, to take a, 44-18, lead into the locker room at halftime. The Nettes poured in 23 points in the third and 21 points in the fourth quarter to take the contest, 88-32.

Gracyn Shultz led the Nettes with 22 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals, while Elaine Martinez tallied 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals and Melo Rodriguez chipped in 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Kambry Tolbert added nine points, five rebounds and three steals, while Braelyn Pointer contributed eight points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds, and Landree Gonzales chipped in seven points, three rebounds and one assist.

Edette Herrera added seven points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds, while Blessy Montes finished with six points, three rebounds, three steals and one assist and Stevi Lockhart added four points, one rebound, two steals and one block.

Against Sands, Sudan founds themselves down, 11-9, at the end of one, but rallied back for a 10-point second quarter to take a, 19-15, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Sands though, would outscore the Nettes, 25-13, in the second half to hand Sudan their first loss of the tournament, 40-32. Shultz led the team with 12 points, two rebounds and two steals, while Lockhart tallied nine points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks, and Montes chipped in four points, two steals, one rebound and one assist.

Pointer contributed three points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Tolbert added two points, two rebounds, and two steals, and Herrera finished with two points, six steals and three rebounds. Gonzales added two steals and one rebound, while Sanchez tallied one rebound and one steal and Rodriguez finished with one assist and one steal.
