OLTON BASKETBALL CAMP

On Monday June 20, 2022 through Wednesday June 22, Olton High School will host a three day girls basketball camp.

The camp will consist of three sessions; the first session is pre-K through kindergarten from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., the second session is first grade through sixth grade from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the third session is seventh grade through ninth grade from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Olton High School girls basket

Olton High School girls basketball coach, Brittany Huseman, is coaching the camp, along with her assistant Kayla Mandrell. Olton Middle School girls basketball head coach Misti Tomison, Coach T as she’s known by her players and kids at the camp, with the help of their volunteers Emma Acker, Aspen Struve, Analise Ramage, Makenly “Mac” Smith, and Jaclyn “Jac” Alcala are also assisting Huseman with the camp.

Huseman said she will be coaching the girls on the basic fundamentals of basketball, such as dribbling, shooting and passing. She also worked on some defense drills with session three. She said she will be working on these fundamentals over the course of the camp.

Huseman said the girls will also be playing a bunch of games and the girls will be participating in some friendly competition against each other.

“They have a free throw competition, hot shot competition and we didn’t do the layups today,” she said, with gasp and a shocked look. “It goes so fast. Layup competition, we’ll do it tomorrow.”

Huseman closes out each session by telling the girls the Bible verse that will be on this year’s camp shirts and gives them an inspirational pep talk about it means to do things wholeheartedly. This year’s verse is Colossians 3:23.

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,” Colossians 3:23.

The girls then form a huddle, put their hands in and on the count of three yell either Fillies or Mustangs, depending on the session, and on the count of six they yell family.
