A meeting of the UIL Standing Committee on Athletics was held on June 14, 2022, at the Austin Marriott North in Round Rock, TX, to discuss proposals for changes in the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules that have athletic related aspects in order to report recommendations to the Legislative Council.
Some of the major proposals that were discussed were:
A proposal to prohibit freshmen athletes from participating in varsity competitions;
A proposal to change soccer from a spring sport to a fall sport;
A proposal to limit or eliminate scratching of officials by coaches;
A proposal to add a shot clock. Of these proposals, the proposal of freshmen not participating in varsity competition was rejected.
No action was taken for implementing the shot clock, soccer being moved to a fall sport and coaches not being able to scratch officials for their games.
Sixth grade participation in high school athletics in 1A classification is still being studied.
