Braxton Ethridge, Taytum Goodman combine for three gold medals at State Track Meet

The Springlake-Earth Varsity track teams had three athletes compete at the Class 1A State Track Meet on Saturday at the University of Texas at Austin.

On the girl’s side, sophomore, Taytum Goodman finished seventh overall in the team standing with 21 points.

Taytum blazed to a first place finish in the girl’s 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:17.26, which set a new 1A State record, breaking the record she set at the State Meet last year. She also brought home a gold medal in the girl’s 1,600-meter run, clocking a time of 5:20.31. She also finished sixth in the girl’s 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.49.

On the boy’s side, junior, Braxton Ethridge, and senior, Trace Goodman, represented the Wolverines in Austin at the State Meet, where they finished sixth overall with 24 points.

Ethridge clocked a time of 39.18 in the boy’s 300-meter hurdles, which gave him the gold medal. He also just missed breaking the state record of 38.78, which was set by Gary Farquhar of Throckmorton in 2012-2013. Ethridge also placed second in the boy’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.59, again just missing the state record of 14.31, which was set by Farquhar in 2012-2013. He also competed in the boy’s 100-meter dash, where he fin ished ninth with a time of 11.46.

Trace placed fourth in the boy’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.35 and he finished fifth in the boy’s 400-meter dash with a time of 51.40.
