Wildcats drop extra-inning bout with Denver City, 4-1

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team dropped a tough contest in extra innings on Friday afternoon to the Denver City Mustangs, 4-1.

with the loss, the Wildcats fall to 8-11-1 overall, 1-4 in district play.

It was a pitcher’s duel for the first four innings, but in the bottom of the fifth the Wildcats were able to scratch a run across to take a, 1-0, lead into the sixth inning.

After a scoreless sixth, the Mustangs knotted things up with a run in the top of the seventh to make the score, 1-1, and kept the Wildcats off of the board in the bottom half of the side, despite a two-out double by Isaiah Rodriguez.

However, the Wildcats would give up three run in the top of the ninth, as they ended up dropping the contest to Denver City, 4-1.

Ethan Garcia pitched 6.2 innings for Littlefield earning 11 strikeouts on the day.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday with a road game against Muleshoe.

First pitch is scheduled for noon.
