The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team secured a play-off spot on Friday with a victory over Denver City, 7- 3.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 12-7 overall, 5-3 in district play.
Cadence Sanchez and the Littlefield defense kept the Fillies quiet in the top of the first inning and MyKenzie Price drew a walk to lead off the bottom half of the side for the Lady Cats. Cadence Sanchez was hit by a pitch putting runners on the corners for Littlefield. Cadence Sanchez stole second on a pitch, before Brookelyn Gau ripped a two-RBI triple over the left fielder to make the score, 2-0.
Katelyn Gau grounded out to Mendoza at first base for out number one, as Brookelyn Gau scored to extend the lead to, 3-0. Natalia Sanchez doubled to left field, but Tricia Torres grounded out to the shortstop, moving Natalia Sanchez over to third with two outs. Julie Rodriguez reached on an error by Rodriguez, ending up on second with an RBI-single to make the score, 4-0. Taryn Golden hit a fly ball and reached base on an error by the shortstop, Orona, as Rodriguez scored to make the score, 5-0. Kaeleigh Logan was hit by a pitch, but Price grounded into a fielder’s choice to retire the side. Denver City responded with
Denver City responded with two runs in the top of the second inning, but in the bottom half of the side, Cadence Sanchez singled to center field and two batters later, she was drove in on a single to center field by Katelyn Gau to make the score, 6-2.
Denver City would added a run on a sacrifice grounded by Orona to cut the lead to, 6-3, going into the bottom of the fourth inning, and in the bottom of the fifth, Cadence Sanchez would double on a hard ground ball to left field to score Alex Tenorio, making the score, 7-3.
The score would stand over the next inning and a half, as Littlefield took the contest, 7- 3.
Cadence Sanchez pitched a complete game for the Lady Cats earning three strikeouts, while giving up two walks and three runs, two earned.
The Lady Cats will close out their season on Saturday with a road game against Muleshoe.
First pitch is scheduled for noon.
