The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team made it back-to-back district wins on Saturday with a, 17-0, run rule victory in five innings on the road.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 9-6 overall, 2-2 in district play.
The Lady Cats got the offense going early, as Natalia singled up the middle to lead things off. Cadence Sanchez hit an RBIdouble down the third-base line and Brookelyn Gau followed it up with an RBI-double that fell in right field, making the score, 2-0. Katelyn Gau hit a grounder to Flor Ortiz at third base, who made a high throw to first, allowing Brookelyn Gau to score from second to extend their lead to, 3-0.
Taryn Golden singled on an error by Briza Herrera behind first base and Tricia Torres hit an RBI-double to the center-field fence. Golden scored on a throwing error to third, pushing their lead to, 5-0. MyKenzie Price hit an RBI-single that fell in shallow center field to stretch the lead to, 6-0. Price took second on a wild pitch, before Julie Rodriguez walked to put two runners on for Littlefield.
Kaeleigh Logan roped a two - RBI-double to the left-field fence to make the score, 8-0, and Natalia Sanchez drew a walk in her second at-bat of the inning. Logan was called out for leaving second base early for out number one, but Cadence Sanchez and Brookelyn Gau were both hit by pitches to load the bases. Katelyn Gau promptly unloaded the bases with a three - RBI single under the glove of Rosa Comparan at first base to extend their lead to, 11-0.
Golden kept the rally going with a two-run homerun to right field, making the score, 13-0, as Alexis Quiroz was relieved by Nina Vasquez in the circle. Torres lined out to Herrera at second base and Price laid down a bunt that was fielded by Vasquez in the circle and thrown to first for the out.
Cadence Sanchez made quick work of the Bobbies in the bottom half of the side, as Comparan grounded out to Golden at third base for out number one. Vasquez popped up to Katelyn Gau at frist base for out number two and Makayla Delgado grounded out to Cadence Sanchez in the circle to end the inning.
Rodriguez, Logan and Natalia Sanchez drew walks to load the bases to get the second inning going and Cadence Sanchez and Brookelyn Gau drew back-to-back RBI walks to push the lead to, 15-0. Katelyn Gau ripped an RBI-double into left-center field to stretch their lead to, 17-0. Brookelyn and Katelyn Gau were both called out for leaving the base early and Golden was thrown out at first on a dropped third strike to retire the side.
Littlefield kept the Bobbies offense silent over the next four innings, as they took the contest, 17-0.
Cadence Sanchez started in the circle for the Lady Cats, pitching two innings, earning one strikeout. Natalia Sanchez pitched the final three innings, giving up one walk, while earning seven strikeouts.
The Lady Cats hosted Muleshoe on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a home game against Lamesa.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
