The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team took down Lubbock Christian High School on Saturday, 18-0, behind a no-hit bid in the circle by senior, Brookelyn Gau.
With the win, the Lady Cats go into district play with an overall mark of 7-4.
Natalia Sanchez opened the game with a double to center field and she took third on a past ball, before Cadence Sanchez was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners for Littlefield. Cadence Sanchez took second on a pitch, before Brookelyn Gau doubled on a line drive to left field to make the score, 1-0. Katelyn Gau followed suit with a two-RBI double to left field to stretch the lead to, 3-0, for the Lady Cats.
MyKenzie Price hit a hard ground ball and reached on an error by the shortstop Emily Galbraith, taking second on the play, as Littlefield extended their lead to, 4-0. Tricia Torres doubled to left field, as Price scored to push their lead to, 5-0, and Julie Rodriguez followed it up with an RBI-triple to right field to make the score, 6-0.
Taryn Golden and Alex Hernandez drew back-to-back walks to load the bases, but Natalia Sanchez popped up to the pitcher Leah Richardson for out number one. Cadence Sanchez picked up her second hit of the inning, with a three-RBI double to left field, pushing their lead to, 9-0. Brookelyn Gau, though, would fly out to right field for out number two, but Cadence Sanchez was able to tag up and advance to third on the play.
Katelyn Gau ripped an RBIdouble into left field to extend their lead to, 10-0, but Price Grounded out to Emily Galbraith at shortstop to retire the side.
In the bottom half of the inning, Emily Galbraith struck out looking to lead things off for LCHS and Addyson Rogers grounded out to Rodriguez at second base for out number two. Richardson drew a walk, but Halle Galbraith struck out swinging to end the inning.
Torres opened the second inning with a line drive to center field for Littlefield, and Rodriguez reached on an error by Halle Galbraith at first base, moving Torres to third on the play. Torres scored on a wild pitch, as Rodriguez advanced to second on the play with the lead stretched to, 11-0.
Golden grounded out to Keeley Durham at second base for out number one, as Rodriguez advanced to third on the play, but Hernandez picked her up with an RBI-single to left field, stretching their lead to, 12-0. Hernandez took second on a past ball, before Natalia Sanchez belted a home run to center field to extend their lead to, 14-0.
Cadence Sanchez laid down a bunt and was thrown out at first by Richardson for out number two. Brookelyn Gau would follow it up with a home run to center field, making the score, 15-0. Katelyn Gau drew a walk, and Price reached on an error, but Katelyn Gau was called out on the base paths to retire the side.
Brookelyn Gau made quick work of the Lady Eagles, as she got
Jayda Manny to strikeout swinging, Ellie Pruitt to pop up to Natalia Sanchez at shortstop and Durham to strike out swinging to end the inning.
The Lady Cats added three runs in the top of the third inning, as they went on to defeat the Lady Eagles, 18-0.
Gau pitched a complete game, striking out eight batters, while giving up one walk.
The Lady Cats hosted Lamesa on Tuesday to open district play. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play at home on Saturday against Brownfield.
First-pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
