Nettes run rule Sundown, 13-3, to open District play

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity softball team opened district play on Tuesday with a, 13-3, victory over the Sundown Roughettes.

With the win the Nettes improve to 4-1 overall, 1-0 in district play.

Both teams tallied one run in the first inning, before being held scoreless in through the second inning. Sudan Kept the Roughettes off the board in the top half of the third inning and in the bottom half of the side, the Nettes pushed three runs across to take a, 4-1, lead into the fourth inning.

Sundown tacked on two runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to, 4-3, but after keeping Sundown quiet in the top of the fifth inning, the Nettes offense exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the inning to run rule the Roughettes, 13-3.

Blessy Montes pitched a complete game for the Nettes, earning four strikeouts.

Offensively, Hailey Flores had three hits, while Gracyn Shultz finished with two hits and three RBI’s. Elora Thorn also had two RBI’s in the contest.

The Nettes were in Sundown on Saturday for their second meeting of the season with the Roughettes. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on March 15 th with a home game against Hale Center.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
