Lady Cats fall to host team Seminole, 7-4

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team came up short on Thursday in their second game of tournament play in Seminole, as they fell to the host-team Maidens, 7-4.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 1-1 in tournament play.

Natalia Sanchez drew a lead-off walk to begin the first inning, but Cadence Sanchez grounded into a fielder’s choice to shortstop, as the Maidens went the short way to second for the force out for out number one. Brookelyn Gau hit an RBI-double into right field to put the Lady Cats up, 1-0, but Katelyn Gau and Alex Tenorio both grounded out to second base to retire the side.

Brookelyn Gau made quick work of the Maidens in the bottom half of the side, as she got Kyndra Regino to strike out swinging for out number one. Elizabet Pinon popped up to Kaeleigh Logan behind the plate for out number two and Laila Gutierrez flew out to Tricia Torres in center field to end the inning.

The Lady Cats were kept off of the board in the top of the second and in the bottom half of the inning, Xyla Madry singled on an error by Alex Hernandez in right field to give Seminole a base runner. Madry took second and third, before Natalie DeLeon struck out swinging for out number one. Zoey Tiechroeb singled on an error by Hernandez in right field allowing Madry to score from third, cutting the lead to, 2-1.

Tiechroeb took second and third, before Brookelyn Gau got Dalayni Perez to strike out swinging for out number two. Tiechroeb scored on a wild pitch to tie the game, 2-2, before Brookely Gau got Draya Armendariz to strike out swinging to end the inning.

Natalia Sanchez singled on an error to right field and Cadence Sanchez drew a walk to put two runners on for the Lady Cats. Brookelyn Gau singled on an error by the pitcher DeLeon to load the bases for Littlefield, but Katelyn Gau struck out looking for out number one.

Alex Tenorio hit a sacrifice grounder to second base, as the Maidens got the sure out at first, as Natalia Sanchez scored to put Littlefield back on top, 3-2.

Hernandez, though, was thrown out at first on a dropped third strike to retire the side.

Brookelyn Gau went back to work in the circle for the Lady Cats in the bottom of the third inning, as she got a quick strikeout and ground out to start things off. With two outs, Pinon singled on an error by Natalia Sanchez at short stop to give the Maidens a runner. Pinon took second on a past ball, before Gutierrez doubled on a line-drive to left field to tie the game, 3-3, however she was thrown out at third by Brookelyn Gau trying to take third on the play to end the inning.

Both teams went scoreless through the fourth inning and in the bottom of the fifth, the Maidens added three runs to take a, 6-3, lead into the top of the sixth inning.

Tenorio drew a lead off walk to start things off for Littlefield, but Hernandez lined out to left field for out number one. Torres grounded out to second, but Julie Rodriguez doubled on a fly ball to right field to score Tenorio from second, however Rodriguez was thrown out trying to take third on the play, leaving the score, 6-4, as the side was retired.

Seminole tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning and kept the Lady Cats off the board in the top of the seventh, as Littlefield came up short, 7-4, against the Maidens.

Brookelyn Gau pitched a complete game for the Lady Cats, earning six strikeouts, while giving up one walk and seven runs.
