Lady Cats down Kermit, 17-1, at Seminole Tourney

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team took down the Kermit Lady Jackets on Thursday in their first game of the Seminole Tournament, 17-1.

In the top of the first inning, Natalia Sanchez and Cadence Sanchez were both hit by a pitch to put two runners on for the Lady Cats. The runners advanced to move into scoring position, before Brookelyn Gau flew out to right field, allowing Natalia Sanchez to tag up and score from third and Cadence Sanchez to advance to third, as the Lady Cats jumped in front, 1-0.

Katelyn Gau roped a line drive to center fielf for an RBI-single to put Littlefield up, 2-0, and Alex Tenorio followed it up with a double to left field, putting runners on second and third for Littlefield with one out. Alex Hernandez singled on an error by the left fielder, allowing two runs to score to stretch the lead to, 4-0. Hernandez took third on an error, before Tricia Torres hit an RBIsingle up the middle to push their lead to, 5-0.

Torres took second, before Julie Rodriguez popped up to the pitcher for out number two. Taryn Golden was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second and Natalia Sanchez promptly ripped a double into center field to score another run for the Lady Cats, extending their lead to, 6-0. Cadence made it back-to-back doubles into center field, as she score two more runs for Littlefield, pushing their lead to, 8-0.

Brookelyn Gau hit a fly ball to right field that fell in for an RBItriple and Katelyn Gau kept the rally going with a line drive to center field for an RBI-single, pushing their lead to, 10-0. Tenorio would pop up to the pitcher to retire the side.

Brookelyn Gau recorded back-to-back strikeouts to start the bottom half of the side, before she gave up a walk to the next batter to give Kermit their first base runner of the game. Brookelyn Gau would strand that runner on first as she got the following batter to strike out swinging for out number three to end the inning.

Alex Hernandez led off the second inning with a single to left field and Torres drew a walk to put two runners on for Littlefield. Rodriguez singled on an error by the center fielder to load the bases and Golden was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, stretching their lead to, 11-0. Natalia Sanchez hit a line drive to center field to drive in two runs, extending the lead to, 13-0.

Cadence Sanchez was hit by a pitch to load the bases again for Littlefield, and Brookelyn Gau singled to center field to bring in one more run, pushing their lead to, 15-0. Katelyn Gau grounded out to third base, as Cadence Sanchez scored and Brookelyn Gau advanced to third on the play with the score stretched to, 16-0. Tenorio struck out swinging for out number two, but Hernandez hit an RBIn-single into left field to push the lead to, 17-0.

Torres grounded into a fielder’s choice at third, as Kermit got the force out at second to retire the side.

Kermit added a run in the bottom of the third inning, but it was not enough, as the Lady Cats run ruled the Lady Jackets, 17-1.

Brookelyn Gau pitched three innings for the Lady Cats, giving up just two walks and one run, while earning four strikeouts.
