Wolverines bounce Kangaroos, 80-27; stay perfect in district play

The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity basketball team cruised past the Kress Kangaroos on Friday, 80-27, to stay unbeaten in district play.

With the win, the Wolverines improve to 17-6 overall, 10-0 in district play.

Springlake-Earth jumped out to a, 20-12, lead in the first quarter and never looked back. They posted 22 points in the second frame to make the score, 42-16, going into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, they netted 23 points, pushing their lead to, 65-24, before outscoring Kress 15-3, in the final quarter to take the contest, 80-27.

Evan DeLeon led the team in scoring with a game-high 29 points. He was joined in doublefigures scoring by JJ Jaramillo, who netted 13 points and Keshan Holmes, who finished with 11 points.

Alex Alvarez notched eight points, while Kaden Castillo and Trace Goodman each tallied six points and Micah Sanchez and Josh Samaron each finished with two points in the contest.

The Wolverines hosted Amherst on Tuesday for their second meeting with the Bulldogs. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a non-district game against Dimmitt on the road.
