The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity basketball team won back-to-back district games over Cotton Center and Lazbuddie.
With the wins, the Wolverines improve to 14-6 overall, 7-0 in district play.
Against Cotton Center last Friday, the Wolverines came out on fire in the first quarter, pouring in 24 points in the opening frame. They added 25 points in the second quarter to take a, 49-15, lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, the Wolverines outscored the Elk, 15-11, in the third quarter and, 21-11, in the fourth quarter to take the contest, 83-37.
Evan DeLeon led the team in scoring for the contest with 24 points, as one of five Wolverines in double-figures scoring. Kaden Castillo added 17 points, while Micah Sanchez and Alex Alvarez each tallied 11 points and Trace Goodman contributed 10 points. Cain Tovar and JJ Jaramillo each finished with six points in the contest.
This past Tuesday, the Wolverines took down Lazbuddie on the road, 78-20.
They again came out of the gates on fire with a 29-point outing in quarter number one. They shutout the Longhorns in the second quarter, while adding 16 points of their own to make the score, 45-4, going into the locker room at halftime.
The Wolverines poured in 19 points to open the second half and added 14 in the final frame to take the contest, 78-20.
Castillo and DeLeon led the Wolverines in scoring for the game with 16 points apiece and Alvarez tallied 15 points. Jaramillo chipped in 13 points, while Tovar added 11 points and Sanchez added four points and Josh Samaron finished with three points in the contest.
The Wolverines were at Hart on Friday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a home game against Anton.
Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
