The Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team won a non-district match-up over the Idalou Wildcats, 64-45, on Friday.
With the win, the Mustangs improve to 19-3 overall, heading into district play.
Olton jumped out to a, 19-4, lead in the first quarter and outscored the Wildcats, 14-10, in quarter number two to take a, 33-14, lead into the locker room at halftime.
Out of the break, Idalou poured in 15 points in the third quarter to chip away at the Olton lead, making the score, 45-29, going into the final quarter of play. But, Olton poured in 19 points in the final quarter to take the contest, 64-45.
Chris Urbina led the team in scoring with 26 points, while Jake Soliz joined him in doublefigures scoring with 16 points. Nick Casares chipped in eight points, while Nathan Urbina contributed four points and Joe Canchola and Andrew Martinez each finished with two points in the contest.
The Mustangs will play Vega on Thursday to open district play.
Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
