The Springlake-Earth Lady Wolverines’ varsity basketball team stayed unbeaten in district play on Friday, as they traveled to Anton and knocked off the Lady Dogs, 56-35.
The Lady Wolverines came out hot out of the gates, pouring in 24 points in the opening quarter, while holding Anton to just five points. The second frame was much tighter, with Springlake-Earth outscoring Anton, 10-8, to take a, 34-13, lead into the locker room at halftime.
Springlake-Earth outscored Anton, 13-11, in the third quarter, but the Lady Dogs bested the Lady Wolverines in the final frame, 11-9, however Springlake-Earth would go on to take the contest, 56-35.
Halee Toscano led all scorers with a game-high 18 points, while Sayler Beerwinkle joined her in double-figures scoring with 13 points and Mahalia Delgado chipped in 10 points.
Taytum Goodman tallied eight points, while Jasmine Garcia contributed three points and Emma Samaron and Sydney Furr each finished with two points.
For Anton, they were led by Andie Alonzo-Rivera, who finished with 15 points and Bridget Thomas, who netted 13 points. Takyra Goree chipped in three points, while Cienna Castillo and Alexis Hoover each finished with two points in the game.
The Lady Wolverines were at Kress on Tuesday to take on the Lady Roos. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Friday with a road game against Amherst.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
