The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity basketball team fell to the Portales Rams on Tuesday in the consolation bracket, 55-49.
With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 0-2 in tournament play.
Portales jumped out to a, 17-10, lead in the first quarter. In the second frame, Springlake-Earth poured in 13 points, cutting the Rams lead to 27-23, going into the locker room at halftime.
The Wolverines outscored the Rams, 14-8, in the third quarter to tie the game, 37-37, but the Rams rallied back in the final quarter to outscore the Wolverines, 18-12, taking the contest, 55-49.
Kaden Castillo led the team in scoring with 24 points, while Evan DeLeon added 12 points, Keshan Holmes finished with nine points. Micah Sanchez and JJ Jaramillo each finished with two points in the contest.
