The Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team fell short in their comeback efforts against the Dumas Demons on Monday, as they dropped their tournamentopener at the Wildcat Classic, 63-56.
It was a tight game through the first quarter, with Dumas holding a one-point advantage at the end of one, 13-12. Dumas’ offense ignited in the second quarter for 22 points to take a, 35-27, halftime lead into the locker room.
Olton was held to eight points in the third quarter, as Dumas stretched their lead to, 52-35, heading into the final quarter of play, but in the final quarter, the Mustangs poured in 21 points, but fell short in the comeback, falling 63-56.
Chris Urbina led the Mustangs in scoring with 16 points, and he was joined in double-figures scoring by Jake Soliz, who finished with 13 points. Brennon Huguley chipped in nine points, while Alex Santillan contributed seven points and Joe Canchola tallied six points.
Andrew Martinez finished with five points in the contest.
