Wildcats drop first meeting with Shallowater, 16-5

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team fell at home on Tuesday night to the Shallowater Mustangs, 16-5, in their first meeting of district play.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 3-4 in district play.

Gabe Mata pitched 1.2 innings for the Wildcats, giving up four hits, four walks and six runs, two earned. Ana Ayala pitched 1.2 innings, giving up three hits, four walks and five runs, four earned, and CJ Weaver went 1.2 innings, giving up one hits, four walks and five runs, one earned, while striking out four batters.

Shallowater jumped out in front early with four runs in the top of the first inning and two runs in the top of the second inning to make the score, 6- 0. After a scoreless third inning for both teams, Shallowater plated five more runs, stretching the lead to, 11-0, but Littlefield would answer in the bottom of the fourth, as they scratched two runs across, trimming the lead to, 11-2.

Shallowater added five runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to, 162. Littlefield would push three runs across in the home-half of the fifth, but it was not enough to keep the game going, as they fell to the Mustangs in five innings, 16-5.

At the plate, the Wildcats tallied four hits and four walks as a team, led by Blayton Soliz, who had a triple and an RBI. Dawson Adkins recorded a hit and an RBI, while Kyzer Billingsley chipped in a hit, a walk and an RBI. Jayden Kirkland added a hit and Mata finished with two walks in the contest.

The Wildcats were at Idalou on Friday for their second meeting of district play. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Monday with a home game against Muleshoe.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
