Wildcats fall short against Dimmitt in first meeting, 7-5

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team came up short on the road on Saturday against the Dimmitt Bobcats, 7-5, in their first meeting of district play.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to, 3-3 in district play.

Blayton Soliz pitched four innings, giving up one hit, six walks and three runs, two earned, while striking out four batters. Brayden Black gave up two hits one walk and three runs, while CJ Weaver pitched 0.1 innings, giving up two walks and one unearned run, while striking out one batter.

Ana Ayala pitched 1.2 innings, giving up one hits, while earning two strikeouts.

The game was scoreless through the first two innings, but in the top of the third, Littlefield plated two runs to take the lead. Dimmitt answered with a run in the home-half of the third inning to cut the lead to, 2-1, and in the Bobcats would tack on two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, pushing their lead to, 7-2.

Littlefield would fight their way back into the game, as they added a run in the top of the sixth inning to make the score, 7-3. The Wildcats plated two runs in the top of the seventh inning to make the score, 7-5, as they fell short in their comeback efforts on the road.

At the plate, the Wildcats totaled seven hits and six walks as a team, led by Cayson Villarreal, who tallied two hits, including a double and two walks. Gabe Mata chipped in a double and a walk, while Dawson Adkins added two hits and an RBI.

Soliz contributed one hit, one walk and two RBI’s, while Weaver tallied a hit and an RBI and Craig Jennings and Kyzer Billingsley each drew a walk in the contest.

The Wildcats hosted Shallowater on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a road game against Idalou. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
