The Olton Mustangs’ varsity baseball team held off a late surge from the Ralls Jackrabbits on Saturday to take the contest, 8- 7, sweeping the season series.
With the win, the Mustangs improve to 2-1 in district play.
Paytn Jimenez pitched three innings for the Mustangs, giving up two hits, four walks and three runs, while striking out two batters. Dax Light pitched four innings, giving up seven hits, one walk and four runs, while striking out three batters.
Both teams went scoreless through the first inning, before Ralls got on the board with two runs in the top of the second inning. Olton would cut it in half with a run in the home-half of the second inning, and they would plate five runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead, making the score, 6-2.
Ralls would battle back with a run in the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth inning and one in the top of the sixth to tie the game, 66. Olton would break the tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, making the score, 8-6, going into the final inning. The Mustangs were able to hold Ralls to one run in the top of the seventh to take the victory, 8-7, for the season sweep.
At the plate, the Mustangs totaled three hits and six walks as a team, led by Rigo Galvan, who had a double and an RBI. Jimenez drew three walks, while Wyatt Francis has two RBI’s and a walk, and Callen Burns and Alex Green each recorded a hit in the contest.
The Mustangs also had seven stolen bases as a team, led by Green who had three steals.
The Mustangs were at New Deal on Tuesday for a double-header with the Lions. Results were not available at press time. They will be back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Sudan for their first meeting with the Hornets.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
