Wildcats go on the road, take down tigers, 10-2

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team went on the road and took down the Slaton Tigers, 10-2, on Tuesday.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 8- 9 overall, 3- 2 in district play.

Gabe Mata pitched 4.2 innings for the Wildcats giving up seven hits, five walks and two runs, while earning two strikeouts. Blayton Soliz pitched 2.1 innings, giving up four walks, while earning four strikeouts.

The score was, 0- 0, through three innings, before Littlefield broke through with six runs in the top of the fourth to make the score, 6- 0. Slaton scratched a run across in both the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to cut the lead to, 6- 2, but in the top of the sixth the Wildcats added four runs to extend their lead to, 10- 2.

The Wildcats defense would shutout the Tigers over the next two innings to take the contest, 102.

At the plate, the Wildcats totaled eight hits and seven walks as a team, led by Mata, who had two hits, including a double, one walk and two RBI’s. Dawson Adkins tallied a triple, two walks and an RBI, while Cayson Villarreal chipped in two hits and an RBI.

Jayden Kirkland added a hit, a walk and two RBI’s, while Weaver added a hit and a walk and Ana Ayala finished with a hit and an RBI.

The Wildcats were at Dimmitt on Saturday for their first meeting with the Bobcats. Results were not available at press time. They will wrap up the first round of district play on Saturday with a home game against Shallowater.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p. m.
