The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team went 3-0 at the Post Tournament this past weekend, picking up wins over Abernathy, Hale Center and Colorado City.
The Wildcats improve to 3-1 overall on the year.
Against Abernathy, the Wildcats took down the Antelopes, 8-2. Gabe Mata pitched three innings for the Wildcats, giving up one walk and two runs, zero earned, while earning four strikeouts. Ana Ayala pitched one inning, giving up one walk, while earning two strikeouts.
Abernathy jumped out in front early with one run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Wildcats bounce battle back pushing two runs across in the top of the second inning to take the lead, 2-1. The Wildcats would add four runs in the top of the third inning, but the Antelopes responded with one run in the bottom half to make the score, 6-2.
Littlefield would add two runs in the top of the fourth inning to take the contest, 82.
The Wildcats tallied six hits and seven walks at the plate, led by Jayden Kirkland, who posted two toubles and two RBI’s. CJ Weaver tallied a double and a walk in the contest, while Dawson Adkins drew two walks and Kyzer Billingsley and Ayala each recorded a hit and a walk.
Mata and Cayson Villareeal each added a walk and an RBI, while Brayden Black finished with a hit and an RBI.
Against Hale Center, the Wildcats took down the Owls, 17-2.
Ayala pitched two innings, giving up two hits, one walk and two runs, while earning three strikeouts. Black pitched two innings, giving up two hits, while earning one strikeout.
The Wildcats scored four runs in the top of the first inning, but Hale Center answered with two runs in the home-half of the inning to make the score, 4- 2. Littlefield would score two runs in the second inning, one in the third and 10 in the fourth inning, while shutting out the Owls over the final three innings, taking the contest, 17-2.
The Wildcats totaled seven hits and six walks as a team, led by Mata, who tallied two hits, including a double and four RBI’s. Adkind chipped in a double, a walk and an RBI, while Kirkland recorded three walks and Black contributed two walks. Weaver added two hits and an RBI, while Billingsley chipped in a hit and an RBI.
Ayala finished with one hit and an RBI and Villareal also added an RBI.
In their final game of the tournament, the Wildcats took down Colorado City, 83.
Weaver pitched 2.1 innings, giving up three hits, two walks and three runs, two earned, while earning six strikeouts. Jennings pitched 1.2 innings earning one strike out.
Each team scratched a run in the first inning and Littlefield added two runs in the second to take a, 3-1, lead into the third inning. Colorado City would respond in the bottom of the third inning with two runs to tie the game, 3-3, but in the top of the fourth, Littlefield would push five runs across, before shutting out the Wolves in the bottom half of the inning to take the contest, 8-3.
The Wildcats recorded three hits and five walks as a team, led by Villareal, who tallied one hit and two RBI’s. Mata and Craig Jennings each added one hit and an RBI, while Ayala, Kirkland, Weaver Albert Velasquez and Billingsley each recorded a walk.
The Wildcats were at Bushland on Tuesday to take on the Falcons. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season this weekend at the Wichita Falls Tournament. Games are TBA.
