Nettes go 2-2 at Lady Cat Invitational in Idalou

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity softball team went 2-3 at the Lady Cat Invitational this past weekend in Idalou taking down Idalou and Roosevelt, before falling to Frenship Memorial, Canadian and Roosevelt.

The Nettes improve to, 54-1 overall on the year.

In their first game of the tournament against Idalou, Sudan defeated the host team, 11-6.

Danalei Kelley pitched four innings for the Nettes giving up nine hits, five walks and six runs, three earned, while earning two strikeouts.

Idalou struck first with a run in the top of the first inning, but Sudan responded with two runs in the bottom half to take the lead, 2-1. The Lady Cats added a run in the top of the second, but the Nettes answered with five runs in the bottom half of the second to take a, 7-2, lead into the third inning.

Idalou responded with three runs in the top of the third and one run in the fourth, but Sudan scratched four runs in the bottom of the fourth, as the Nettes took the contest, 11-6.

The Nettes totaled seven hits and nine walks as a team.

They were led by Daniella Ramirez, who tallied two hits, including a double, one walk and three RBI’s. Lillianna Sanchez chipped in a double, a walk and three RBI’s, while Danielle Mitchell added three walks and an RBI and Kalissa Harris recorded two walks in the contest.

In their second game on Thursday, the Nettes edged out the Lady Eagles, 11-10.

Mitchell threw 4.2 innings, giving up 10 hits, one walk and 10 runs, three earned, while earning five strikeouts.

Roosevelt jumped out in front early with five runs in the first inning, but Sudan responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to make the score, 5-4. Roosevelt added two runs in the second inning, but Sudan responded with three runs in the homehalf of the second to tie the game, 7-7.

The Lady Eagles posted three runs over the next two innings, but Sudan would rally for four runs in the bottom of the fourth to win the game, 11-10.

Harris led the Nettes at the plate with a triple, a walk and three RBI’s, while Ramirez added a double, two walks and two RBI’s. Williams also recorded a double, one walk and two RBI’s, while Reyna Limon contributed two hits, including a double, and two RBI’s.

Sanchez tallied one hit, one walk and one RBI, while Scarlett Pool added one hit and one walk, and Mitchell finished with a double, a walk and an RBI.

On Friday, the Lady Cats fell to Frenship Memorial, 11-10, in their third game of the tournament.

Kelley pitched three innings for the Nettes giving up six hits, six walks and 11 runs, five earned, while earning four strikeouts.

Sudan struck first in the top of the first with two runs, but the Lady Panthers answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to make the score, 21. Sudan added four runs in the top of the second, before Frenship Memorial erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the inning to make the score, 11-6.

Sudan would add four runs in the top of the fourth, falling short in their comeback efforts, 11-10.

At the plate, the Nettes tallied eight hits and three walks, led by Kyndal Wilson, who had a homerun, a double and four RBI’s. Andrea Williams had two hits, including a triple, one walk and one RBI, while Ramirez added three this, including a double and three RBI’s.

The Nettes fell to Canadian to close out the day on Friday, 18-0.

Mitchell pitched three innings, giving up 20 hits, two walks and 18 runs, 17 earned, while earning four strikeouts.

On Saturday, the Nettes squared off with Frenship Memorial in the Championship Bracket, falling to the Lady Panthers, 11-1.

Mitchell pitched five innings, giving up 12 hits, three walks and 11 runs, four earned.

Frenship Memorial scored three runs in each of the first two inning, before Sudan added a run in the top of the second inning to make the score, 6-1. The Lady Panthers added three runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning to take the contest, 11-1.

Sanchez led the Nettes a the plate with a double, while Wilson added an RBI and Ramirez and Limon each tallied a hit in the contest.

In the third-place game, the Nettes fell to Roosevelt, 21-6.

Kelley pitched three innings for the Nettes, giving up 13 hits, five walks and 21 runs, five earned, while earning one strikeout.

The Lady Eagles jumped on the Nettes early with 11 runs in the top of the first inning. Sudan scratched three runs across in the bottom of the first to make the score, 11- 3. Roosevelt stayed on the attack, adding six runs in the second inning, but Sudan, again, answered with three runs in the bottom of the third to make the score, 17-6.

Roosevelt would add four runs in the top of the third, taking the contest, 21-6.

Harris led the Nettes at the plate with a homerun, a double and two RBI’s, while Mitchell added two hits and three RBI’s and Kelley chipped in a triple. Limon also added an RBI in the contest.
