The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team dropped both games of their double-header on Saturday in Coahoma, as they fell to Coahoma, 12-4, and Clyde, 10-1.
With the losses, the Lady Cats fall to 0-5 overall on the year.
Against Coahoma, Amaya McCanick threw 4.1 innings in the circle, giving up eight hits, five walks and 11 runs, six earned, while striking out five batters. Sophia Mata pitched 0.1 innings.
Coahoma jumped out in front early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and a run in the second inning, taking a, 3-0, lead into the top of the third. However, the Lady Cats would battle back, as they scratched a run in the third and three runs in the top of the fourth to take a one run lead, 4-3.
But, Coahoma would bounce back with nine runs over the next two innings to take the contest, 12-4.
At the plate, the Lady Cats totaled eight hits as a team. Bryndle Ray was 3-4 with a double and an RBI, while Janella Rodriguez and Mata each recorded a double in the contest. Rodriguez also had an RBI. Isaihla Garza drew two walks and scored twice, while Hannah Lopez and Tailyn Gomez each recorded an RBI.
Against Clyde, Mata pitched six innings, giving up nine hits, three walks, and 10 runs, seven earned while striking out four batters. McCanick pitched one inning, earning three strikeouts.
Clyde scratched two runs in the top of the first inning, before adding three in the third inning and two in the fourth inning to make the score, 7-0. Littlefield got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a homerun from Brianna Aleman, but Clyde answered with a three run sixth inning, as they went on to take the contest, 10-1.
Aleman was two for three with a homerun and an RBI, while London Taylor finished with one hit and one walk in the contest.
The Lady Cats hosted Tahoka for their homeopener on Monday. Results were not available at press time. They will be competing in the West Texas Classic in Midland this weekend against Stanton and Dumas on Thursday, Kermit and Pecos on Friday and Presidio and Floydada on Satruday.
