The Sudan Hornets’ varsity basketball team closed out play at the Wildcat Classic last Wednesday with an overtime victory over Denver City, 43-36.
Denver City jumped out in front early, outscoring the Hornets, 13-6, in the first quarter and, 11-6, in the second frame to take a, 24-12, lead into the locker room at halftime.
However, the Hornets would come swarming back, as they poured in eight points in the third quarter, while holding the Mustangs to just four points, cutting the lead to, 28-20, going into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth quarter, Sudan would tally 16 points to tie the game, 36-36, forcing overtime.
In the extra period, the Hornets outscored Denver City, 7-0, to take the contest, 43-36.
Aspen Reyher led the way for the Hornets with 18 points, four steals, two rebounds and one assist, while Kye Pole tallied six points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist, and Caleb Groetken chipped in five points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Brian Delgado contributed five points, two assists and one rebound, while Dylan Provence added four points, two assists, one steal and one rebound, and Haden Provence tallied two points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Kyler Edwards contributed two points, three rebounds and one assist, and Miles Ledbetter finished with one point and one assist.
