The Littlefield Lady Cats varsity basketball team cruised past the Talkington Lady Warriors on Tuesday, 79-20, in district play.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 2-1 in district play.
Amoni Jefferson got the Lady Cats going with a steal, going coast-to-coast for a lay-up, and she followed it up with a drive on the left side for a lay-up, pushing their lead to, 4-0. Nia Cleveland dropped in a put-back off of a miss by Cobi Saldana, as Talkington took a time out, trailing, 6-0, with 6:34 remaining in the opening quarter.
Out of the break, Jefferson picked up a steal from Ia’Kah Burgess on the inbound play, and got it to Madison Williams, who was fouled on an attempt by Mabel Roller. She converted both shots at the line to make the score, 8- 0. Jefferson kept it going with a lay-up off of an assist from Cleveland and Williams followed it up with a steal, taking it to the hoop on the fastbreak for a lay-up, pushing their lead to, 12-0, with 4:43 to play in the first quarter.
Jefferson was fouled on an attempt by Anneliese Hohbine and she converted both attempts at the line to extend their lead to, 14-0. Jefferson followed it up with a floater off of an assist from Abbie Rodriguez and Williams knocked down a jumper in the lane off of an assist from Jefferson, making the score, 18- 0, as Talkington took a time out with 2:24 to play in the first quarter.
Out of the break, Zalise Davis picked up a steal on the inbound pass from Burgess and got it to Jefferson, who finished the play with a reverse lay-up, pushing their lead to, 20-0. With under a minute to play Hohbine was fouled on an attempt by Davis, earning a trip to the line. She converted both shots to trim the lead to, 202, but on the other end, Williams was fouled on the floor, sending her to the line for free throws. She split the attempts, making the score, 21-2, as the first quarter came to a close.
Davis drove the left side for a lay-up off of an assist from Jefferson to open the second frame and Jefferson followed it up with a lay-up off of an assist from Davis, pushing their lead to, 25-2. Davis picked up a steal and took it in for a fast-break lay-up and Cleveland kept it going with a lay-up off of the assist from Jefferson, extending their lead to, 292, with 6:16 remaining in the half.
Saldana drove the left side for a lay- up and Jefferson drove the right side on the next play, dropping in a lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on Burgess. She missed the free throw, leaving the score, 33- 2. Bray knocked down a jumper from the left wing off of an assist from Burgess and Williams picked up a steal, dishing it ahead to Jefferson, who buried a three from the right wing, stretching their lead to, 364, with 4:50 left to play.
Jefferson dropped in a lay-up off of a steal in their own end, but on the next play, Talkington was fouled on a put-back attempt by Williams. They made oneof two shots from the line, making the score, 38-5. With under four minutes to play in the half, Davis dropped in a lay-up, and after a pair of missed free throws by Roller, Aubree Richardson buried a three from the elbow and followed it up with a jumper from the elbow to close out the half with Littlefield in front, 45-5.
Cleveland opened the second half with a lay-up off of an assist from Davis, and Davis followed it up with a three from the top of the key, off of an assist from Williams, pushing their lead to, 50-5. Davis hit Williams with an outlet pass on the fastbreak for a lay- up and Saldana followed it up with a lay-up off of an assist from Davis, stretching their lead to, 54-5.
With 4:39 to play in the third quarter, Hohbine was fouled on an attempt by Davis, her second of the game. She made one-oftwo shots from the line, trimming the lead to, 54- 6. Jefferson dropped in a layup off of an assist from Davis, but Talkington would close out the quarter on an, 11-2, scoring run, cutting the lead to, 58-17, as the third quarter came to a close.
Jefferson dropped in a put-back off of her own miss to open the fourth quarter and she followed it up with a steal on defense, dishing it ahead to Williams, who dropped in a lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on Burgess, her second of the game. Williams converted the free throw to push their lead to, 63-17.
Jefferson and Williams dropped in back-to-back lay-ups in transition for Littlefield, and with just under five minutes to play in the game, Williams was fouled on an attempt by Hohbine, her second of the game. She converted both attempts at the line, extending the lead to, 69-17.
Williams kept the scoring run going with a jumper from the right elbow off of the assist from Davis and Jefferson followed it up with a lay-up, making the score, 73-17. Burgess knocked down a jumper from the right elbow for Talkington, but Rodriguez answered with a jumper from the left wing and Richardson followed it up with an outlet pass to Jefferson, who used a euro step to get into the paint for a floater, stretching the lead to, 77-20. Davis would close out the game with a lay- up off of a Talkington turnover, as Littlefield took the contest, 79-20.
The Lady Cats were led by Jefferson, who netted a game-high 31 points. She was joined in double-figures scoring by Williams, who netted 18 points and Davis, who tallied 13 points. Cleveland chipped in six points, while Richardson added five points and Saldana contributed four points. Rodriguez finished with two points in the contest.
The Lady Cats were at Roosevelt on Friday as District play continued. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Monday, as they host the Tigerettes.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
