The Olton Fillies’ varsity volleyball team had their season come to an end on Tuesday night, as they fell to the Forsan Lady Buffaloes, 0-3, in the Class 2A Area Volleyball play-offs at Coronado High School.
Harleigh Greer had a dig hit the net to open set one for Forsan, but Taryn Smith’s next seve fell short of the net, tying the set, 11. Llama Ramirez sent a kill past the block attempt of Ary’Anna Mealing and Mealing sent a kill sailing out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 3-1.
Catherine Myers would answer with a kill off of the block attempt by Ramirez and Mealing sent a kill past Ramirez and Denisse Alvarado, making the score, 3-3. Alvarado would answer with a kill off of the block attempt by Mealing and Mealing again sent a kill sailing out of bounds on the next play to make the score, 5-3.
A tip from Zayda Gonzales did not make it over the net, but Forsan couldn’t capitalize, as Aubrey Strickland sent a kill sailing out of bounds, making the score, 6- 4. Emily Austin sent a kill out of bounds, but she responded on the next play with a tip over Gonzales for a kill, trimming the lead to, 7-5.
Hannah Crenshaw sent a kill attempt out of bounds, but Forsan would rally back and tie the set a few plays later, as Myers dropped a tip off of the block attempt from Gonzales for a kill, tying the set, 8- 8. Austin blocked Smtih for a kill and Myers sent a kill past the block attempt of Kambri Ruiz, pushing Forsan’s lead to, 8-10, before Jovi Ward sent a serve short of the net. Mealing delivered a kill in front of Alvarado, sparking a 10-point Forsan rally, that ended when Smith delivered a kill in front of Austin to trim the lead to, 10-20.
Crenshaw sent a hit into the net, but Ramirez was called for a lift on the next play to make the score, 1121. A tip by Ruiz was hit backwards out of bounds by Kendall Thompson and on the next play Mealing touched the net n a hit, trimming the lead to, 13-21.
Alvarado dropped a tip off of Mealing and Strickland for a kill, but Mealing fired right back with a tip off of Barbara Gallegos for a kill to make the score, 14-22. Mealing sent a tip into the net for Forsan, but a long dig by Kaitlyn Avalos landed out of bounds and Ward followed it up with a kll that was tipped out of bounds by Smih, making the score, 1524.
Austin had a kill land out of bounds on the sideline, but a tip on the next play by Ward was tipped out of bounds at the net by Gonzales and Gallegos, giving Forsan the set, 16-25.
Forsan jumped out to an, 0-5, lead in set two, before Olton took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Smith delivered a kill in front of Mealing’s block attempt to get the Fillies on the board, 1-5. Mealing was blocked by Ramirez, but the ball went over the net and landed out of bounds on the sideline for a Forsan point. Ward sent a kill sailing out of bounds and Ruiz followed it up with an ace off of Thompson to cut the lead in half, 3-6.
Alvarado sent a kill out of bounds, sparking a fourpoint rally for Forsan that ended when the Lady Buffaloes were called for four hits, making the score, 4-10. Forsan sent a hit into the net and on the next play, Greer was called for touching the net on a dig attempt, cutting the lead to, 6-10.
Alvarado had a hit blocked by Greer and Strickand for a kill, butAlvarado fired right back on the next play with a kill to trim the lead to, 7-11. Smith was blocked by Crenshaw andAustin for a kill, sparking a five-point rally that ended when Smith delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Austin, making the score, 8-16.
Austin responded with a kill past HalleKate Huguley, sparking another three-point rally for Forsan. A save by Ruiz fell in for an Olton point to make the score, 9-19, but a hit from Ruiz landed out of bounds on the sideline during the net play, extending the lead to, 9-20.
Mealing was blocked by Ramirez for a kill and Myers sent a hit sailing out of bounds on the sideline, during the next play, cutting the lead to, 11-20. Mealing regained the sere for Forsan, as she had a kill tipped out of bounds by Ramirez, making the score, 11-21. Ramirez sent a hit into the net, but the next serve from Myers sailed out of bounds, making the score, 12-22.
Both teams sent kill attempts off of the mark and Austin delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Ramirez and Gallegos, making the score, 1324. Strickland sent a hit out of bounds, butAustin would close out set two with a tip over Gonzales for a kill, giving Forsan the set, 14-25, putting them in front, 2-0 in the match.
Alvarado opened set three with a kill that was tipped out of bounds by Strickland and she followed it up with a kill on the next play to push their lead to, 2-0. Myers dropped a tip over Ruiz for a kill and Ruiz sent a hit out of bounds on the next play to tie the set, 2-2.
The teams exchanged miscues, before a double hit on Ruiz sparked a four-point Forsan rally, that ended when Mealing had a hit land out of bounds, making the score, 4-7. Olton would battle back and tie the set, 9-9, after a return from Kyndall Pritchard landed out of bounds on the sideline.
Forsan took a time out and out of the break, Gonzales delivered a kill off of Crenshaw to regain the lead, 10-9. However, it was short-lived, as Pritchard dropped a kill in front of the block attempt by Smith and Gonzales, making the score, 10-10.
Myers deliverd a kill, sparking a five-point Forsan rally, that ended when she sent a kill sailing out of bounds, making the score, 11-15. Myers responded with a tip for a kill, but the next serve from Austin fell short of the net, making the score, 1216.
Alvarado sailed a hit out of bounds and Mealing followed it up with a kill on the sideline to push their lead to, 12-18. Olton answered with a kill on the sideline, butAlvarado sailed another hit out of bounds, making the score, 13-19.
Mealing was blocked by Alvarado and the cover hit by Mealing was hit into the net, givng Olton the point to trim the lead to, 14-19. Ward dropped a kill off of the block attempt by Gonzales sparking a three-point rally, before she sailed a hit out of bounds to make the score, 15-22.
Smith delivered a kill off of the block attempt byAustin and Ward sailed a hit out of bounds to make the score, 17-22. Strickland tipped the net with a hit for a kill, but Smith answered with a tip of her own for a kill to make the score, 18-23.
Austin was blocked by Gonzales for a kill and Smith followed it up with a kill off of Ward to cut the lead to, 20-23, as Forsan took a time out. Out of the rbeak, Austin dropped a tip over Gonzales for a kill and Crenshaw was blocked by Gonzales, but the ball landed out of bounds, as Forsan took set three, 20-25, and the match, 30.
