The Lamb County Leader-News’ annual football contest just finished up week 10 last week, leaving just two weeks left in this year’s contest.
This week, we had six contestants tie for the top spot with a mark of 16-4. They were: Brenda Herrell, JC Orozco, Maria Pinon, Richard Orozco, Ronnie Martin and Steve Raney.
The tie-breaker for week nine was the combined score of the 49ers and Giants, which was 58 points.
Pinon took first place with a guess of 54 points, while Martin and Richard Orozco split the second and third place prizes evenly, both guessing 48 points, edging out Brenda Herrell and JC Orozco, who both guessed 47 points and Raney, who guessed 45 points In the high school ranks, Littlefield won their final regular season game over Roosevelt, 49-28, while Sudan went on the road to take down Morton, 56-28. Abernathy blasted Olton, 70-15, while Springlake-Earth wrapped up their regular season with a, 526, victory over Kress.
Idalou blasted Slaton, 41-6, while Amherst defeated Clovis Christian and Post shutout Floydada, 62-0. Sunray edged out Sanford-Fritch, 33-26, while Shallowater shutout River Road, 56-0.
In the college ranks, Notre Dame picked up an ugly road win against Boston College, 25-10, while Oklahoma took down Tennessee, 33-27, and Kentucky defeated Auburn, 10-3. Mississippi State de- Arkansas, 38-35, while North Carolina State pulled off the upset over Georgia Tech, 48-36.
In the NFL this week, the Seahawks took care of business against the Commanders, 38-14, while the Steelers defeated the Colts, 27-20, and the Bears won a wild one over the Bengals, 47-42. The Vikings took down the Lions, 27-24, and the Jaguars beat the Raiders in overtime, 30-29.
The rest of the contestant scores for week 10 are as follows: Those who finishd 15-5 this week were Alma Castillo, Charlie Smith, Jimmy Garcia, Johnny Rosemond, Lonnie Neinast, Micky Orozco and Robin Elliott, while those who finished 14-6 this week were David Neinast, Dewayne Hayes, Donna Neinast, Ed Dabrowski, JR Herrell, Juan Garza, Larry Ashley, Terrill Moorhead, Tim Walker and Jesusa Garcia.
Contestants who went 13-7 this week were Jan Smith, Jonathan Magallanes, Sam Castillo, Stephanie Dabrowski, Teresa Dabrowski and Evan Barrera, while Mark Grace, Moe Castillo and Stevy Smith each went 12-8 this week.
In the overall standings, Martin retains the top spot with 157 points, while Brenda Herell is in second place with 149 points, and Raney and Lonnie Neinast are tied for third with 148 points. Hayes is in fourth with 147 points, while JC Orozco, JR Herrell and Stevy Smith are tied for fifth with 146 points.
Rosemond is in sixth with 145 points, while Richard Orozco is in seventh with 143 points, and Jan Smith is in eighth with 141 points. Magallanes is in ninth with 140 points, while Micky Orozco rounds out the top 10 with 138 points.
