The Littlefield Lady Cats clinched their spot in the play-offs last Saturday, taking down the Childress Lady Cats, 3-2, at Wildcat Gym in Littlefield.
With the win, the Lady Cats wrap up district play with a mark of 4-6.
Childress jumped out to an early lead in set one, after Emma Jalomo served up an ace in the back corner, but Cobi Saldana answered with a kill off of the set from Bryndle Ray to tie the set, 1-1. Journey Prince sent a kill past Nevaeh Lopez in the back row, sparking a four- point rally for Childress, that ended when Saldana delivered a kill on the sideline to make the score, 2-5.
London Taylor served up an ace off of Jalomo, before sending her next serve out of bounds to make the score, 3-6. Ava Everage dropped a tip off of Mattie Seymore for a kill and Avery Keys served up an ace off of Taylor to stretch their lead to, 3-8. A save attempt by Taylor fell short of the net and Maggie McNeese was blocked by Everage for a kill, pushing the lead to, 3- 10, as Littlefield took a time out.
Out of the break, McNeese delivered a block for a kill, but Everage answered with a kill past Taylor to extend the lead to, 411. McNeese would respond with a block on Everage for a kill and on the next play a block by Lopez was hit into the net by Everage, trimming the lead to, 6-11.
Childress took a time out and out of the break, De’Edra Miller delivered a kill off of Faith Balderas on the sideline, and Addi Edmondson served up an ace in front of Balderas, making the score, 6-13. Lopez ended the run with a kill over the block attempt from Harley Carrasco and Kinley Galligan sent a hit into the net on the next play, cutting the lead to, 8-13.
Taylor delivered a kill in the back corner of the court, but Everage responded with a tip on the sideline for a kill, making the score, 9-14. Everage sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline and Saldana followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt by Keys to cut the lead to, 11-14.
McNeese would be called for a double-hit, giving the serve back to Childress, and they were able to capitalize, as Carrasco delivered a kill off of Ray to push the lead to, 11-16. Keys and Prince delivered back-to-back kills for Childress, before Prince sent a hit sailing out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 12-18.
Lopez’s next serve fell short of the net, but Madison Williams answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Miller, trimming the lead to, 13-19. Littlefield was unable to build any momentum, as Taylor sent a serve out of bounds to make the score, 13-20. Prince scored back- to- back kills for Childress, as they went on a, 0-4, scoring run to close out the set, 13-25.
Prince had a tip blocked by Saldana for a kill to open set two, but on the next play, Saldana was blocked by Prince for a kill to tie the set, 1-1. A tip on the next play by Saldana was tipped out of bounds by Galligan and a long dig on the following play by Jalomo was killed at the net by McNeese, pushing their lead to, 3-1.
A serve from Taylor tipped the net for an ace, before her next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 4-2. McNeese responded with a kill off of Jalomo and Prince sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds on the next play, pushing the lead to, 6-2. Everage sent a hit short of the net, and Kamila Silveira served up an ace off of Jalomo to push their lead to, 8-2.
Childress was called for four hits after a hit from Everage didn’t make it over the net, forcing a time out by the visitors to talk things over. Out of the break, Prince was called for a double-hit, stretching the lead to, 10-2, before Williams sent a hit into the net to end the rally for Littlefield. Childress would rally for three points, before Williams had a kill tipped out of bounds by Miller, making the score, 11-5.
Everage sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds, but the Lady Cats would be called for four hits on the next play, sparking a threepoint Childress rally, cutting the lead to, 12-8. McNeese delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Everage, but Taylor sent a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 13- 9. Childress would rally back and tie the set, 13-13, after Everage tipped the net for an ace, but her next serve landed out of bounds, putting Littlefield back on top, 14-13.
Ray served up an ace off of Galligan, but Keys answered with a kill past McNeese in the back row to trim the lead to, 15-14. Saldana fired right back for Littlefield, as she sent a kill through the block attempt of Prince and Keys and Williams followed it up with a tip that was hit into the net by Prince, making the score, 17-14.
Childress would rally to take the lead, 17-18, after back-to-back aces from Sara Davis. However it was short-lived, after Miller sent a hit into the net, knotting things up, 18-18. The teams went back-and-forth until Everage was blocked by Lopez for a kill to make the score, 24-23. Taylor had a kill blocked by Everage, but the ball landed out of bounds, as Littlefield took set two, 25-23, tying the match, 1-1.
Saldana was blocked by Keys and Prince for a kill to open set three, but the next serve from Jalomo sailed out of bounds tying the set, 1- 1. Carrasco dropped a tip out of bounds for Childress, but Prince quickly answered, delivering a kill over the block attempt by Taylor and Saldana to tie the set, 2-2.
The teams exchanged points and Miller dropped a tip off of McNeese for a kill to put Childress in front, 34. Keys sailed a serve out of bounds to tie the set and a hit by Prince on the next play didn’t make it over the net, stretching Littlefield’s lead to, 5-4. Everage was blocked by McNeese for a kill, but Prince answered with a kill past Balderas, sparking a three-point rally to put Childress in front, 67, before Littlefield called a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Williams dropped in a tip for a kill on the sideline to tie the set, 77. Everage would answer with a kill on the sideline to spark a five-point rally, that ended when McNEese delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Jalomo, trimming the lead to, 8- 12. Keys would answer with a kill inside the back boundary line for Childress, but a hit on the next play by Jalomo would land out of bounds and Ray followed it up with an ace in front of Galligan, cutting the lead to, 10-13.
Childress would score three consecutive points, before Saldana delivered a kill off of a block attempt by Prince, trimming the lead to, 12-15. Williams had a tip tipped out of bounds by Carrasco, but on the next play, Saldana was blocked by Prince for a kill, making the score, 13-16.
The Lady Cats would battle back and tie the set, after Miller sent a hit sailing out of bounds, but Childress would quickly reclaim the lead after Taylor’s serve fell short of the net, making the score, 16-17. Saldana delivered a kill on the sideline, but Childress answered with three consecutive points, making the score, 17-20.
After a misfire from Everage, Williams would serve up back-to-back aces to tie the set, 20-20. Jalomo sent a kill sailing out of bounds and McNeese followed it up with a kill off of Carrasco, pushing their lead to, 22- 20. A return by Prince was killed at the net by Lopez and Williams followed it up with back-toback aces to close out set three, 25- 20, putting Littlefield in front, 2-1, in the match.
Childress would rally back to claim set four, 1925, to tie the match, 2-2.
In set five, Taylor had a tip fall between Jalomo and Edmondson for a kill and Lopez followed it up with an ace to put them in front, 2-0. Keys sent a tip intot he net and Prince had a tip land out of bounds on the sideline, stretching the lead to, 4-0. Lopez had a serve fall short of the net to end the rally and Prince followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt by Taylor to cut the lead in half, 4-2.
Saldana responded with a kill off of the block attempt by Prince, but Prince fired right back with a kill between Taylor and Balderas to make the score, 5-3. Ray dumped a ball over the net for a kill, but Prince again answered with a kill on the back line to make the score, 6-4.
McNeese sparked a rally for Littlefield, delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Miller and Williams served up back-to-back aces, before Miller answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Seymore, making the score, 9- 5. A tip by Carrasco was hit into the net by Williams and Edmondson followed it up with ana ce off of Taylor to trim the lead to, 9-7.
McNeese answered with a kill on the sideline and Ray followed it up with a tip for a kill to make the score, 117, as Childress took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, McNeese served up an ace off of Auburn Green and Jalomo had a kill attempt land out of bounds on the sideline, pushing the lead to, 13-7. Keys sent a return short of the net, but Everage would answer with a kill off of the block attempt by Lopez to keep the set alive. However, Tyalor would deliver a kill off of Prince to take set five, 158, and the match, 3-2.
