The Lamb County Leader-News’ annual football contest’s wrapped up week nine last week, leaving just three weeks left in this year’s contest.
This week, we had two contestants tie for the top spot with a mark of 17-3. They were Johnny Rosemond and Ronnie Martin.
We also had five contestants tie for second place with a mark of 16-4: Brenda Herrell, Lonnie Neinast, Martin Duran, Steve Raney and Maria Pinon.
The tie-breaker for week nine was the combined score of theFalcons and Dolphins, which was 44 points.
Rosemond nailed the tiebreaker right on the button with a guess of 44 points, forcing Martin into second place, who guessed 52 points.
For third place, Brenda Herrell and Lonnie Neinast both guessed 44 points to split third place, edging out Raney, who guessed 45 points, Duran, who guessed 39 and Pinon, who guessed 35 points.
In the high school ranks, Idalou took down Littlefield, 42-7, while Hale Center defeated Sudan in overtime, 34-28. New Deal defeated Olton in overtime, 34-28, while Springlake-Earth took down Happy on Thursday, 58-22, and Amherst defeated Anton, 62-24.
Lefors blasted Groom, 82- 37, while Borden County took down O’Donnell 59- 14, and Wheeler rolled past Clarendon, 56-6. Morton throttled Crosbyton, 42-6, while Seagraves took down Smyer, 41-6.
In the college ranks, Texas A&M blasted LSU, 49-25, while Texas rallied past Mississippi State in overtime, 45-38, and Houston took down Arizona State, 24-16. Cincinnati defeated Baylor, 41-20, and Michigan defeated Michigan State, 31-20.
In the NFL this week, the Patriots handled the Browns, 32-13, while the Texans took down the 49ers, 26-15, and the Broncos blasted the Cowboys, 44-24. The Colts defeated the Titans, 38-14 and the Packers took care of the Steelers, 35-25.
The rest of the contestant scores for week one are as follows: Those who went 15-5 were Dewayne Hayes, Mark Grace, Robin Elliott, Stevy Smith and Terrill Moorhead, while those who went 14-6 were Charlie Smith, JC Orozco, John Hernandez and Richard Orozco. Ed Dabrowski, Jan Smith, Jimmy Garcia, Jonathan Magallanes, JR Herrell, Larry Ashley, Micky Orozco and Moe Castillo each went 13-7 this week, while Juan Garza and Teresa Dabrowski, each went 12-8.
11-9 finishers this week were Alma Castillo, Stephanie Dabrowski and Tim Walker, while Sam Castillo went 10-10 and Stetson Sedberry went 911.
In the overall standings, Martin is starting to pull away in the top spot with 141 points, while Duran is in second place with 135 points and Stevy Smith is in third place with 134 points. Brenda Herrell, Lonnie Neinast and Hayes are tied for fourth with 133 points, while Raney and JR Herrell are tied for fifth with 132 points.
Rosemond and JC Orozco are tied for sixth with 130 points, while Jan Smith is in seventh with 128 points and Richard Orozco and Magallanes are tied for eighth with 127 points. Micky Orozco is in ninth with 123 points and Grace rounds out the top 10 with 122 points.
