Wildcats fall on the road to Idalou, 42-7

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity football team fell on the road to the Idalou Wildcats, 42-7, on Friday.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 7-2 overall, 1-2 in district play.

Littlefield received to open the game, but the Wildcats fumbled the opening kick-off and it was recovered by Idalou at the Littlefield 22-yard line with 11:54 to play in the opening quarter.

Aj Huddleston took a carry up the middle on first down for Idalou, but he was stopped for just a yard, by AJ Cantu. Cooper Hammock- Wilson took a sweep around the right side for a solid gain, before being ran out of bounds by Cantu.

On third and one, Kamdon Lutrick kept it himself taking it around the right side to the 11-yard line, before being brought down by Ben Castillo. The play moved the chains for Idalou and on first down, Lutrick called his own number, taking it to the left side for the 11-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion run by Huddleston was stopped short of the goal line, leaving Idalou in front, 6-0, with 10:23 to play in the first quarter.

Littlefield took over at their own 21-yard line after a short return from Sammy Saenz. Littlefield was able to take the ball just inside of Idalou territory, but they would be forced to punt it away with 6:53 remaining in the first quarter.

Two plays later, Idalou wasted no time finding the end zone, as Lutrick dropped back and fired a deep pass over the middle that was hauled in by Wilson for the 71-yard touchdown with 6:36 to play in the quarter. The PAT was no good, leaving the score, 12-0.

Littlefield’s offense took over after the kick-off at their own 17-yard line, as Saenz connected with Jayden Barrio on a pass to the right, as he turned it up field for a first down to their own 31-yard line. Blayton Soliz was stopped for no gain on first down and the Wildcats were flagged for holding on the next play, backing them up to, second and 20.

Saenz was sacked on back- to- back plays and Littlefield was called for a false start on fourth and long, backing them up to fourth and 27 from their own 13-yard line. They decided to fake it, as Barrio’s pass was picked off by Caleb Hollingsworth, who returned it back to the Littlefield 25-yard line with 4:32 to play in the quarter.

A few plays later, Lutrick would hit Wilson with a pass to his right for the 26-yard touchdown with 3:17 remaining in the first quarter. The two-point conversion run from Huddleston was good, making the score, 200.

Littlefield took over at their own 28-yard line, but disaster struck on first down, as Saenz slung a quick pass out to his left, but it was picked off by Aiden Barrera for a pick-six with just over three minutes to play in the quarter. The PAT was blocked by Littlefield, as Idalou stretched their lead to, 26-0.

Littlefield’s struggles on offense continued into their next drive, as they went three-and-out with Barrio punting the ball away with 1:35 to play in the quarter.

With just under a minute to play, Idalou ran the ball up the middle rumbling through the defense for a 52-yard touchdown run. The PAT was no good, leaving Idalou in front, 320.

Littlefield’s next possession would take the game into the second frame, but faced with fourth and five from the Idalou 37-yard line, Saenz’s pass fell incomplete looking for Barrio for a turnover on downs with 11:32 to play in the first half.

Idalou took over at their own 37-yard line, as they put together a 10 play, 63yard drive that was capped off with a 25-yard touchdown run by Huddleston with 6:04 left to play in the half. The PAT was good, pushing their lead to, 39-0.

Littlefield got the ball back on offense after a short return from Saenz at their own 22-yard line, but just three plays into the drive, Saenz was stripped and the ball was recovered by Huddleston at the 50yard line with 5:14 to play in the half.

Idalou would tack on another touchdown as time expired in the first half to take a, 42-0, lead into the locker room at halftime.

After a quiet third quarter, Lutrick shanked a punt for Idalou, giving the Wildcats the ball at the Idalou 49-yard line with 1:37 to play in the third quarter.

Daniel Rojas carried it for six yards around the right side and Saenz called his own number on second down, taking the ball down to the 37-yard line for a fresh set of downs. Saenz hit Champion on a pass to the left, but he was stopped for a loss and Rojas carried it up the middle to close out the third quarter for Littlefield.

Littlefield opened the fourth quarter with third and six from the 33-yard line, as Saenz hit Barrio on a slant route to move the chains again. With first and 10 from the 15- yard line, Saenz picked up two yards up the middle and Rojas followed it up with a six-yard run to the right to make it third and two from the seven-yard line.

On third down, Saenz dropped back and found Champion on the left side for a seven-yard touchdown pass with 10:50 left to play. The PAT by Barrio was good, trimming the lead to, 42-7.

The score would stand, as Littlefield fell to Idalou on the road, 42-7.

The Wildcats will close out the regular season this Friday, as they host Roosevelt for Senior Night.
