Lady Cats come up short against Fillies, 0-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team dropped their second matchup of the season with the Shallowater Fillies at home on Tuesday night, 0-3.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 1-6 in district play.

Carli Buckley opened set one with a kill for Shallowater, but the next serve from Jorja McGuire sailed out of bounds, tying the set, 1-1. Madison Williams served up an ace off of Emma Clawson, but Clawson answered with a kill past Faith Balderas on the next play, making the score, 2-2.

Buckley served up an ace off of Williams, before sending a serve short of the net for Shallowater, keeping the set tied, 3-3. Kamila Silveira sent a serve short of the net for Littlefield, but during the next play, Bryna Crawford was called for being on the net, knotting the game up once more, 4-4.

Balderas sent a serve sailing out of bounds, but London Taylor answered with a kill to keep the set deadlocked at, 5-5. Taylor’s next serve sailed out of bounds and Buckley followed it up with a kill off of a long dig from Tailyn Gomez, pushing the Fillies’ lead to, 57. The play sparked a fivepoint rally for Shallowater that ended when Williams delivered a kill on the back row, trimming the lead to, 6-11.

McGuire answered with a kill over the block attempt by Nevaeh Lopez and Cobi Saldana, starting another sixpoint rally, making the score, 6-17. Littlefield scored a point before a kill from Saldana fell short of the net, forcing a four hits call on the Lady Cats, making the score, 7-18.

Aniston VanAtta delivered a kill off of Bryndle Ray and Buckley sent a kill past the block attempt from Maggie McNeese, pushing their lead to, 7-20. Littlefield scored again to end the rally, but they could not put together a rally of their own, as Williams’ next serve fell short of the net, extending the lead to, 8-21.

Shallowater went on a fourpoint rally, as Buckley served up an ace to close out set one, with the Fillies taking the set, 8-25.

In set two, Shallowater jumped out to a, 0-3, lead, before VanAtta was called for a double hit, making the score, 1-3. Lopez sent her serve sailing out of bounds for the Lady Cats, and Clawson followed it up with a kill to make the score, 1-5. Taylor Wood sent a serve short of the net and Crawford sent a hit out of bounds on the sideline, cutting the lead to, 3-5.

A dig by Ray was tipped out of bounds by Lilah Graves, but Williams’ next serve landed out of bounds, making the score, 4-6. Taylor delivered a kill out of bounds and Clawson followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt from McNeese and Saldana, but a hit from Shallowater on the next play fell short of the net, making the score, 5-8.

Silveira served up an ace off of Clawson and McNeese had a hit tipped out of bounds by the Fillies, before Silveira served up another ace, this time off of Crawford, to tie the set, as Shallowater took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Emie Lusk had a kill hit into the net by Silveira to reclaim the lead for the Fillies, 8-9.

Lusk had another hit tipped out of bounds by Balderas and McGuire followed it up with a kill off of Kealee Bussey, pushing their lead back out to, 8-11. McNeese ended the run with a kill that was tipped out of bounds by Jaci Fenter, but the next serve from Balderas landed out of bounds, making the score, 9-12.

Crawford had a serve land out of bounds for the Fillies, but McGuire answered with a kill off of Lopez to make the score, 10- 13. The Fillies couldn’t capitalize, as VanAtta sent a serve short of the net and Ray followed it up with an ace off of Buckley, trimming the lead to, 12-13.

McGuire sailed a kill out of bounds to tie the set, 13-13, but Buckley answered with a kill and Saldana sent a hit short of the net to put Shallowater back in front, 1315. A tip by Saldana was dug into the referee stand by McGuire, but on the next play, a tip from Williams landed out of bounds on the sideline, sparking a 10-point rally, as the Fillies took set two, 14-25, putting them in front 0-2 in the match.

Shallowater opened set three with a kill, but McNeese answered with a kill of her own to tie the set, 1-1. Williams served up an ace between Wood and McGuire, but her next serve landed out of bounds, keeping the set tied, 2-2. Clawson delivered a kill off of the block attempt from McNeese, but McNeese answered with a kill past Wood in the back row as the set stayed even at, 3-3.

Avery Schoor delivered a kill off of Balderas and Clawson followed it up with a kill in the back corner to stretch their lead to, 3-5. This sparked a five-point Fillies’ rally, that ended when they sent a hit into the net to make the score, 4-9. Clawson delivered a kill in front of Silveira, sparking another five-point rally to stretch the lead to, 414.

Lusk sent a kill attempt out of bounds, but Taylor’s serve fell short of the net, making the score, 5- 15. Williams responded with a kill in the back corner for Littlefield, but Lusk answered with a kill in front of Taylor and McGuire followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt from Lopez, pushing their lead to, 6-17.

The serve from Piper Noble went unreturned by Littlefield, but Schoor sent a hit into the net for Shallowater on the next play, trimming the lead to, 718. Buckley sent a kill past Taylor, but the next serve from Keelie Williams fell short of the net, making the score, 819.

Littlefield sent a hit out of bounds, but they answered on the next play with a kill off of Wood, trimming the lead to, 9-20. Shallowater would close out the set on a, 1-5, scoring run, taking set three, 10-25, and the match, 0-3.

The Lady Cats were at Tulia on Saturday to take on the Lady Hornets for their second match-up of district play. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a district match-up against Talkington.

First set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
