Lady Cats drop district-opener to Idalou, 0-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team dropped their districtopener at home on Tuesday to Idalou, 0-3.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 11-13 overall, 01 in district play.

In set one, Cobi Saldana sent a kill sailing out of bounds to open the match, but London Taylor answered with a tip for a kill, as Aaliyah Garcia was late getting to the ball on the dig attempt, tying the set, 1-1. Littlefield could not capitalize, though, as Taylor sent a hit sailing out of bounds on the next play to put Idalou back in front, 1-2.

Taylor would answer with a kill off of Hadley Underwood and Briley Stephens to tie the set, 2-2, and Tailyn Gomez served up an ace past Garcia to give Littlefield the lead, 3-2. Underwood delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Maggie McNeese and she followed it up with an ace off of Faith Balderas to put Idalou back in front, 34.

Heidi Gentry delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Mcneese and Kealee Bussey, but McNeese answered with a kill between Ross and Jayci McKinney to make it a one- point game, 4-5. Littlefield was unable to keep up the momentum, as Balderas sent a serve sailing out of bounds.

The teams went backand- forth until a tip from Ross was hit out of bounds by Bryndle Ray, putting Idalou in front, 5-9. Nevaeh Lopez sent a hit out of bounds, but on the next play, Littlefield would regain the serve, as Saldana delivered a kill that was hit out of bounds by Genntry, trimming the lead to, 6-10.

A hit from Lopez failed to make it over the net forcing a four hits call on Littlefield, but the next serve from Garcia sailed out of bounds for Idalou, making the score, 7-11. McNeese was called for being across the net on a play, and during the next play, she would have a tip blocked by Stephens for a kill to push Idalou’s lead to, 7-13.

Underwood delivered a kill off of Brittani Wright, but Saldana answered with a kill past Leyla Carmona, trimming the lead to, 8-14. McNeese followed it up with a kill in the back corner of the court, but Wright sent a hit short of the net on the next play, making the score, 9-15.

A kill by McNeese was tipped out of bounds by McKinney and Bussey followed it up with a kill off of Ross, making the score, 1115. Gomez sent a serve out of bounds for Littlefield and on the next play, Madison Williams was blocked by Kambrie Roye for a kill stretching Idalou’s lead to, 11-17. Williams would respond with a kill off of the block attempt from Stephens and Lopez killed a ball at the net off of a long dig from Idalou, cutting the lead to, 13-17.

Roye dropped a tip over Lopez for a kill and McKinney served up an ace off of Balderas, making the score, 13-19, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Idalou was called for four hits, but Littlefiled could not seize the opportunity, as Ray sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 14-20. Saldana answered with a kill off of Underwood, but on the next play, Taylor sent a kill sailing out of bounds, making the score, 15-21.

Carmona delivered a kill off of Taylor and Garcia served up an ace off of Wright, before Idalou was called for four hits, making the score, 16-23. McNeese killed a long dig from Idalou and McKinney sent a hit sailing out of bounds on the next play to cut the lead to, 18- 23, but Underwood would deliver a kill and Saldana sent a hit into the net, as Idalou took set one, 18-25.

In set two, Mattie Seymore delivered a kill off of Garcia, but Underwood answered with a kill past Lopez, tying the set, 1-1. Littlefield was called for a lift, and Roye followed it up with a kill past Balderas, making the score, 1-3. A save by Ray was hit out of bounds by Underwood, but a rotation error on Littlefield gave the ball back to Idalou with the score, 2-4. Ross sent a serve short of the net and Kamila Silveira followed it up with an ace to cut Idalou’s lead to, 3-4.

Roye dropped a tip off of Seymore for a kill and Idalou followed it up with a kill in the back corner to stretch their lead back out to, 3-6. Underwood served up back-to-back aces off of Balderas and Seymore, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Underwood sent a kill attempt into the net, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Gomez sent the serve sailing out of bounds to make the score 4-9.

Roye delivered a kill over McNeese’s block attempt and McKinney delivered an ace in front of Balderas to stretch their lead to, 4-11. McNeese ended the rally with a kill off of the block attempt by Brianna Fishback, but Idalou fired right back, as Roye delivered a kill off of Gomez, to extend their lead to, 5-12.

Gomez delivered a hit out of bounds on the sideline, but Idalou’s next serve from Roye landed out of bounds on the sideline, trimming the lead to, 6-13. Lopez dropped a kill inside the back boundary line for Littlefield, and Saldana followed it up with a kill past Morgan Carthel to cut the lead to, 8-13. Ray, though, would sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 8-14, as Idalou regained the serve.

A kill attempt from Saldana didn’t make it over the net, but Garcia sent a serve short of the net for Idalou, giving it back to Littlefield with the score, 915. Saldana was blocked by Fishback for a kill, but Idalou couldn’t get a rally going, as Underwood sent a kill sailing out of bounds, making the score, 10-16. Lopez served up back- to- back aces for Littlefield and Taylor delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Ross and Stephens, slicing the lead to, 13-16.

Idalou took a time out to talk things over, and out of the break, McNeese was blocked by Stephens for a kill, pushing their lead back out to, 13-17. Underwood was called for being on the net, but Idalou would respond, as Ross dropped in a tip for a kill, making the score, 14-18. Taylor would answer for Littlefield, as she delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Roye and Stephens, but Gomez sent a serve short of the net on the next play, and Silveira was called for touching the net on the following play, stretching the lead to, 15-20.

McKinney served up an ace for Idalou, but Williams answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Roye and Fishback, making the score, 16-21. Littlefield was unable to capitalize, as Balderas sent the serve out of bounds on the sideline. Fishback delivered a kill off of a long dig by Gomez, but Lopez answered with a kill past Carthel, trimming the lead to, 17-23.

Idalou was called for four hits, but Williams sent a hit into the net on the next play for Littlefield, pushing the lead to, 18-24. A tip by Ray was tipped out of bounds by McKinney, but Williams’ next serve landed out of bounds, as Idalou took set two, 19-25, putting them up 2-0 in the match.

Idalou opened set three on an, 0-5, scoring run, before a kill attempt from Stephens landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 1-5. Stephens was called for being on the net on the next play, but she would respond, delivering a kill past the block attempt by Bussey, pushing their lead back out to, 2-6.

Seymore delivered a kill in the corner for Littlefield, but Williams was called on the net during the next play for Littlefield and Stephens followed it up with a tip for a kill to push their lead to, 38. Bussey responded with a kill that McKinney couldn’t dig, but Lopez was called for being on the net during the next play, making the score, 4-9.

Ross was called for being on the net for Idalou, but Ray’s next serve landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 5-10. Fishback delivered a kil off of Williams for Idalou and Roye followed it up with an ace off of Gomez before sending her next serve out of bounds to make the score, 6-12. Ross delivered a tip for a kill and Underwood followed it up with a kill past Balderas making the score, 6-14.

Taylor regained the serve for Littlefield with a kill through the block attempt of Ross and Fishback and Idalou was called for four hits on the next play, cutting the lead to, 8- 14. Underwood sent a hit into the net for Idalou, and Lopez followed it up with back-toback aces in front of Carthel and to cut the lead to, 1114, as Idalou took a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, Taylor dropped in a tip for a kill between McKinney and Natalie Stark, but the rally would come to an end on the next play, as Idalou regained the serve with the score, 1215. McNeese was called for a double-hit, but Saldana answered with a kill off of Stark to make the score, 13--16. Taylor was blocked by Ross for a kill, sparking a, 1-8, scoring run for Idalou, pushing their lead to, 14-24.

Stephens sent a hit sailing out of bounds and Roye sent a kill sailing out of bounds, before Balderas served up an ace off of Underwood to trim the lead to, 17-24. But, a tip by Williams landed out of bounds on the sideline, giving Idalou the set, 17-25, and the match, 0-3.

The Lady Cats were at Shallowater on Saturday to take on the Fillies. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Tuesday with a home game against Tulia.

First set is scheduled for 6 p.m.
