Stevy Smith takes week two of Football contest

The Lamb County Leader-News’ annual football contest wrapped up week three’s set of games with a few surprises across the weekend.

Stevy Smith took first place in week three’s contest, finishing with a mark of 16-4.

We had a tie for second and third place between Brenda Herrell, David Neinast, Donna Neinast and Jonathan Magallanes, who each finished with a mark of 15-5.

The tie-breaker for week one was the combined score of the Bengals and Jaguars, which was 58 points. Magallanes and Donna Neinast both guessed 48 points, edging out David Neinast and Brenda Herrell, who each guessed 46 points.

In the high school ranks, Littlefield held off a comeback from Abernathy at home, 31-28, while Ropes ran away in the second half against Sudan to take the contest, 55-13, and Olton fell on the road against Texico, N. M., 31- 16. Springlake-Earth won their homecoming bout against Petersburg, 74-26, while West Plains throttled, Estacado, 63-34.

Idalou took down Levelland, 32-13, while, Klondike shutout Happy, 560, and Farwell took down Sundown, 38-26. Vega defeated Shamrock, 35-14.

In the college ranks, Georgia survived against Tennessee in overtime, 4441, while USC took down Purdue, 33-17, and Notre Dame dropped a heartbreaker at home to Texas A&M, 41-40. LSU took care of Florida, 20-10, while Georgia Tech took down Clemson, 24-21.

In the second week of NFL action, The Eagles defeated the Chiefs, 20-17, while the Falcons took care of the Vikings, 22-6, and the Bills handled the Jets, 3010. The Cowboys won a shootout over the Giants in overtime, 40-37, while the Lions throttled the Bears, 52-21.

The rest of the contestant scores for week one are as follows: Those who finished 14-6 this week were Alma Castillo, JC Orozco, Johnny Rosemond, Lonnie Neinast, Mark Grace, Moe Castillo, Ronnie Martin and Steve Raney. Dewayne Hayes and Richard Orozco finished 13-7, while JR Herrell, Juan Garza, Larry Ashley, Micky Orozco, Teresa Dabrowski and Terrill Moorhead each finished 12-8, and Jan Smith, Jimmy Garcia, Martin Duran and Ronald Williams each finished 11-9.

Those going 10-10 this week were Maria Pinon, Robin Elliott, Sam Castillo, Stephanie Dabrowski, Tim Walker and William Albus, while Ed Dabrowski, John Hernandez and Stetson Sedberry each went 8-12 this week.

In the overall standings, David Neinast, JC Orozco, Martin and Jan Smith are tied for first place with 43 points, while Donna Neinast and Duran are tied for second with 42 points, and Brenda Herrell and Hayes are tied for third with 41 points. Stevy Smith and Richard Orozco are tied for fourth with 40 points, while Magallanes, Alma Castillo, Lonnie Neinast and Garza are tied for fifth with 39 points.

Rosemond, Moe Castillo, JR Herrell, Micky Orozco and Albusa are tied for sixth with 38 points, while Teresa Dabrowski and Stephanie Dabrowski are tied for seventh with 37 points, and Ashley is tied for eighth with 38 points. Elliott and Sam Castillo are tied for ninth with 35 points, while Raney, Moorhead and Sedberry round out the top 10 with 34 points.
