Lady Cats sweep Titans, 3-0

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team swept the Lubbock Titans on Saturday, 3-0, at Wildcat Gym.

With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 9-10 overall on the year.

In set one, a hit from Aizlen was dug out by Faith Balderas, but the ball landed out of bounds for a Titans’ point. A kill attempt from Cobi Saldana was blocked by Rylee for a kill, but the Titans were called for four hits on the following sequence, giving the serve to Littlefield with the score, 1-2.

Rylee delivered a kill for the Titans to regain the serve, but Maggie McNeese answered with a kill past Brooklynn, trimming the lead to, 2-3. London Taylor dropped in a tip over Maddie and Sophia for a kill to tie the set, but it was shortlived, as Kealee Bussey hit a ball into the net to make the score, 3-4.

A tip by Bussey landed out of bounds, but the next serve from Aizlen fell short of the net, making the score, 4-5. Tailyn Gomez served up an ace off of Aizlen to tie the set, 5-5, but her next serve sailed out of bounds, giving the serve back to the Titans, with the score, 5-6. A hit from Rylee didn’t make it over the net, forcing a four-hits call on the Titans, and Balderas followed it up with an ace off of Hannah, making the score, 7-6.

Madison Williams delivered a kill in front of Maddie, as the Titans took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Nevaeh Lopez dropped a tip past Hannah for a kill, but a kill attempt on the next play from Lopez sailed out of bounds, making the score, 97. The Titans couldn’t capitalize, as Rylee sent a kill sailing out of bounds to make the score, 10-7.

Bryndle Ray served up an ace off of Hannah and a kill attempt from Rylee on the next play sailed out of bounds, pushing the Littlefield lead to, 12-7. Ray sent a serve sailing out of bounds, but Saldana would answer on the next play with a tip that fell in for a kill, making the score, 13-8. Williams served up an ace off of Aizlen, but the Titans answered with a kill to trim the lead to, 14-9.

Brooklynn served up an ace off of Mattie Seymore, but Lopez answered with a kill off of Hannah to push the lead to, 15- 10. A kill attempt by McNeese landed out of bounds on the sideline, but Saldana responded with a kill off of Brooklynn and Kamila Silveira followed it up with an ace off of Brooklynn to extend their lead to, 17-11.

McNeese was called for touching the net on a tip to give the serve back to the Titans, but they couldn’t capitalize, as MJ sent a kill out of bounds on the sideline to make the score, 18-12. Gomez served up back-to-back aces for Littlefield, before sending a serve out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 2013.

McNeese delivered a kill off of Hannah, but the next serve from Balderas landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 21-14. A tip by Silviera was hit backwards out of bounds by Rylee and Rylee was called for being on the net during the next play, making the score, 23-14. Ray would close out set one with backto- back aces, making the score, 25-14.

In set two, Lopez served up an ace off of MJ, but Saldana was called for a double-hit on the next play, making the score, 1-1. McNeese delivered a kill in front of Hannah and on the next play, Brooklynn hit a ball short of the net, pushing Littlefield’s lead to, 3-1. MJ answered with a kill for the Titans and on the next play, MJ was blocked by McNeese and Bussey, but the ball landed out of bounds for a Titan point, tying the set, 3-3.

McNeese would respond with a block for a kill and Gomez followed it up with an ace off of Hannah, pushing their lead back out to, 5-3. McNeese delviered a kill on the back row and a serve from Gomez was tipped out of bounds by Rylee, stretching the lead to, 7-3. Gomez kept it going with an ace, before sending a serve short of the net, making the score, 8-4.

The Titans could not capitalize, as Williams had a tip tipped out of bounds by MJ to push the lead to, 9- 4. Balderas and Maddie would exchange bad serves and Ray tipped the net for an ace to extend the Littlefield lead to, 11-5. Lopez dropped in a tip off of Rylee for a kill, but Ray’s next serve landed out of bounds to make the score, 126.

A tip by Saldana was double hit by Rylee and Williams served up back-to-back aces to stretch their lead to, 15-6. Rylee dropped a tip over Lopez for a kill to end the Littlefield rally, but both teams would send serves short of the net, before Saldana delivered a kill in front of the block attempt from Rylee to make the score, 17-8.

Rylee delivered a kill over the block attempt from McNeese and the Titans scored again on the next play to trim the lead to, 17-10, before McNeese answered with a kill to regain the serve for Littlefield. The Lady Cats could not capitalize, as Gomez sent a serve short of the net, but the Titans would not take advantage of the miscue, as MJ too sent a serve short of the net for the Titans, making the score, 19-11.

MJ delivered a kill off of Balderas, but Lopez answered with a kill off of Maddie and Ray followed it up with three consecutive aces to push their lead to, 23-12. Saldana delivered a kill off of Hannah, but Ray’s couldn’t close out the set as she sent a serve sailing out of bounds to make the score, 24-13. Littlefield would bounce back on the next play, as Lopez delivered a tip for a kill, as Littlefield took set two, 25-13, putting them in front, 20, in the match.

In set three, Littlefield opened things up with a tip for a kill and on the next play, McNeese tipped the net for a kill, making the score, 2-0. Saldana delivered a kill that was hit out of bounds by Hannah and MJ sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds for the Titans, making the score, 4-0. Lopez served up an ace on the back boundary line for Littlefield and on the next play, Sophia sent a hit out of bounds, stretching the lead to, 6-0.

Saldana kept it going with a kill off of Brooklynn and Taylor followed it up by tipping the net with a kill for a kill off of the set from Ray, making the score, 8- 0. McNeese was called for touching the net on a block to end the rally, but she would answer on the next play with a kill in front of Hannah, making the score, 91, as the Lady Cats reclaimed the serve.

Silveira served up an ace past Hannah, before both teams sent serves sailing out of bounds. McNeese delivered a kill off of Brooklynn, before sending a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 12-3. Silveira sent a dig into the net for Littlefield, as they took a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, Maddie served up an ace off of Gomez and Bussey sent a hit into the net on the next play, trimming the lead to, 12-6. Williams ended the rally with a kill in front of MJ, but the next serve from Balderas fell short of the net, making the score, 13-7. The Titans would score backto- back points on Littlefield miscues, before Bussey tipped the net with a hit for a kill to regain the serve for Littlefield.

Rylee dropped in a tip for a kill, but Aizlen’s next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 15-10. Lopez delivered a kill off of Sophia, but they could not capitalize, as Williams sent a serve sailing out of bounds to make the score, 16-11. A kill by Lopez was tipped out of bounds by Aizlen and Lopez followed it up with an ace off of Aizlen to make the score, 18-11.

Littlefield scored back-toback points, before a tip by Saldana fell short of the net, pushing the lead to, 20-12. Saldana sent another hit into the net, before dropped a tip over MJ’s block attempt for a kill, stretching the lead to, 2113. Brooklynn sent a hit short of the net for the Titans and Seymore followed it up with a kill off of Brooklynn to make the score, 23-13.

The Titans would go on a four- point rally, before Seymore delivered a kill off of Rylee to push the lead to, 2417. Williams close out the match with a kill off of a block attempt by Sophia, making the score, 25-17, giving Littlefield the match, 3-0.

The Lady Cats closed out the pre-district schedule with Olton on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will open district play on Tuesday, Sept. 23rd with a home game against Idalou.

First set is scheduled for 6 p.m.
