Lady Cats sweep Lady Cubs, 3-0

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ swept the Brownfield Lady Cubs on Saturday, 3-0, at Wildcat Gym.

With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 6-10 overall on the season.

In set one, Nevaeh Lopez sent a hit into the net to open things up and Allyson Guzman followed it up with an ace off of Lopez to make the score, 0-2, but Guzman’s next serve sailed out of bounds, giving the serve to Littlefield with the score, 12. Maggie McNeese was called for a double-hit, but Cobi Saldana answered with a kill in the back corner to regain the serve for the Lady Cats, making the score, 2-3.

Brailee Franco sent a hit out of bounds for the Lady Cubs, but Saldana’s next serve sailed out of bounds on the sideline, putting the Lady Cubs back in front, 34. A bad set from Kamila Silveira led to a Brownfield point, but Silveira would set McNeese up for a kill on the next play to trim the lead to, 4-5. The Lady Cubs would get get called for four hits to tie the set, but Janah Burns responded with a kill in front of the block attempt from Kealee Bussey, making the score, 5-6.

Madison Williams would answer with a kill in front of Zerika Gonzales to tie the set and Faith Balderas followed it up with an ace off of Gonzales to put Littlefield in front, 7-6. Mikah Valdonado delivered a kill through the block attempt by Lopez and Jasmyn Rodriguez delivered a kill in front of Balderas to put Brownfield back in front, 7-8. Melody Salas sent a hit into the net for Brownfield, and Saldana delivered a kill off of Azanae Dominguez to put Littlefield back on top, 9-8.

Rodriguez sent a hit out of bounds on the sideline for Brownfield and Saldana followed it up with a kill in front of Franco, making the score, 11-8, before Bryndle Ray sent a serve sailing out of bounds. Saldana was blocked Yesenia Mata for a kill and Mata followed it up with a kill on the back row to tie the set once more, 1111.

Saldana was called for a double- hit to give Brownfield the lead and Burns followed it up with an ace in the back corner, before the Lady Cubs sent a hit out of bounds to make the score, 12-13. Williams served up back- to- back aces, before Brownfield took a time out, trailing 1413.

Out of the break, London Taylor was blocked by Mata for a kill, but Taylor would respond on the next play, as she had a kill tipped out of bounds by Braelynn Garcia, putting Littlefield back in front, 15-14. Franco sent a hit into the net, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as McNeese sent a hit into the net, giving the serve right back to Brownfield.

Gonzales sent a serve short of the net for the Lady Cubs and Silveira followed it up with an ace to make the score, 18-15. McNeese kept it going with a kill off of Franco, but Brownfield would deliver a kill off of Balderas, making the score, 19-16. Dominguez served up three consecutive aces to tie the set, 19- 19, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, Valdonado sent a hit outside of the foul pole and Gonzales sent a hit into the net before Franco sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds, making the score, 22-19. Tailyn Gomez sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline, but Franco was called for a double-hit, making the score, 23-20. Salas sent a hit into the net for the Lady Cubs, but the serve from Balderas landed out of bounds, making the score, 24-21. The serve from Garcia fell short of the net, making the score, 25-21, as Littlefield held on to take set one.

In set two, Mata had a kill land out of bounds on the sideline and a bad set from Franco on the next play forced Salas to run into the net, making the score, 2-0. Lopez sent a serve into the net for Littlefield and McNeese was called for a double-hit, pushing the lead to, 2-2.

Guzman was called for a double-hit and the Lady Cubs were called for four hits on the next play, after the hit from Mata didn’t make it over the net, making the score, 4-2. McNeese delivered a kill off of Dominguez and Rodriguez couldn’t play a ball off of the net on the next play, making the score, 6-2. Franco sent a second-chance try into the net after being blocked by McNeese, but Franco would end the rally with a kill in the back corner past Williams, trimming the lead to, 7-3.

Littlefield would regain the serve, as McNeese delivered a kill on the back line, stretching the lead to, 8-3. Valdonado sent a hit into the net and Franco was called for being on the net during the next play, as the Littlefield lead grew to, 103. Gomez served up an ace off of Brynlee Morin, as Brownfield took a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, the serve from Gomez tipped the net for an ace, but her following serve landed out of bounds, making the score, 12- 4. Dominguez and Balderas exchanged serves out of bounds and Salas was blocked by Bussey for a kill, pushing the lead to, 14-5. Ray sent a serve short of the net, but Garcia’s serve tipped the net before landing out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 15-6.

Salas delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Lopez and Burns followed it up with an ace off of Balderas, before Brittani Wright sent a hit short of the net, making the score, 15-9. Rodriguez delivered a kill off of Ray, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Saldana delivered a kill in the back corner and Mata sent a hit out of bounds for Brownfield, making the score, 17-10. Salas sent a hit into the net and Franco was called for a double-hit on her set, pushing the lead to, 1910. Garcia ended the Littlefield rally with a kill and the Lady Cats were called for a double-hit on the next play, cutting the lead to, 1912.

Saldana delivered a kill over Garcia and Rodriguez sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds for the Lady Cubs, making the score, 2112. Silveira served up an ace off of Dominguez, but Franco answered with a kill past Wright, trimming the lead to, 22-13. A bad set from Guzman led to a Littlefield point, but Williams was blocked on the next play by Mata, making the score, 2314.

McNeese was called for being on the net, but Williams would drop a tip off of Guzman for a kill to extend their lead to, 24- 15. Valdonado delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Lopez, but Lopez would fire right back with a kill off of Dominguez to close out the set, making the score, 25-16, putting Littlefield ahead, 20, in the match.

In set three, Littlefield jumped out to a, 3-0, lead, after Saldana delivered a kill past Dominguez and Franco and Rodriguez sent hits into the net. Lopez had a serve sail out of bounds, but McNeese would have a kill tipped out of bounds by the Lady Cubs making the score, 4-1. Balderas sent a dig into the net for Littlefield, but McNeese answered with a kill in front of Dominguez, making the score, 5-2.

Burns sent a kill out of bounds on the sideline for Brownfield and Franco was called for a double-hit, before sent a kill off of the block attempt by Bussey on the next play, trimming the lead to, 7-3. Salas delivered a kill off of the block attempt from McNeese and after a Littlefield time out, Franco served up an ace to cut the lead to, 7-5.

Williams dropped in a tip for a kill and Bussey delivered a kill in front of a block attempt from Salas, pushing their lead back out to, 9-5. Salas was blocked by Lopez for a kill, but Brownfield would respond, as Gonzales delivered a kill through the block attempt by Lopez, however the next serve from Garcia fell short of the net making the score, 11-6.

Brownfield would battle back and make it a one-point game, 11-10, after Williams sent a hit into the net for Littlefield, but the Lady Cubs couldn’t capitalize, as Burns sent a serve sailing out of bounds, making the score, 12- 10. Mattie Seymore delivered a kill off of Garcia, and a pair of Brownfield miscues, made the score, 14-11.

Franco delivered a kill off of the block attempt by McNeese and Saldana, but Gonzales sent a hit into the net and Silveira followed it up with an ace on the back line to make the score, 1612. The Lady Cubs would dig out a ball that made it over the net falling in for a kill, but the next serve from Dominguez landed out of bounds, pushing the lead to, 17-13.

The Lady Cats were called for four hits, but McNeese would answer with a kill off of the block attempt by Burns and Salas, making the score, 18-14. The teams went back and forth until Lopez tipped the net for a kill to spark a rally for Littlefield. Mata sent a hit into the net and Lopez followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt by Mata, pushing the lead to, 23-16. Brownfield would battle back, but a hit outside the pole by Franco would close out the set, 25- 23, as Littlefield took the match, 30.

The Lady Cats hosted Lamesa and Dimmitt for a dual on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Saturday with a home match against the Lubbock Titans.

The first set is scheduled for 11 a.m.
