The Olton Fillies’ varsity volleyball team fell to the host team Shallowater Fillies, 0-2, on Friday, in their first game of tournament play.
With the loss, the Fillies fell to 0-2 on the year.
Olton’s Allison Rivera delivered the opening serve in set one, but Llama Ramirez was called for being on the net during the play, putting Shallowater in front, 0-1. Shallowater took a time out and out of the break, Emma Clawson served up an ace off of Barbara Gallegos and Shallowater followed it up with a kill on the sideline, past Gallegos, making the score, 0-3.
Denisse Alvarado would respond with a kill for Olton to get them on the board and Jorja McGuire had a tip land out of bounds on the sideline to cut the Shallowater lead to one point, 2-3. Shallowater would answer with a kill past Gallegos, but on the next play the rebound hit by Carli Buckley sailed out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 3-4.
Buckley delivered a kill in front of Allison Rivera, sparking a seven-point rally for Shallowater that ended when Zayda Gonzalez sent a kill past Taylor Wood on the back row, making the score, 411. Alvarado’s serve sailed out of bounds for Olton and Clawson followed it up with a kill past Alyssa Rivera, stretching their lead to, 4-13. McGuire served up an ace off of Kambri Ruiz, but on the next play, a hit by Ruiz was tipped out of bounds by Shallowater, cutting the lead to, 514.
Clawson had a kill tipped out of bounds by Kaitlyn Avalos and Taryn Smith sent a kill attempt out of bounds, pushing the lead to, 516. Shallowater kept it going with a kill off of Alyssa Rivera and Buckley served up back-to-back aces, before sending a serve short of the net to make the score, 6-19.
Shallowater would drop in a tip over Ramirez for a kill, but on the next play, Shallowater was called for being on the net on a tip by Ramirez, making the score, 7-20. Clawson sent a kill into the net for Shallowater, but Smith’s next serve sailed out of bounds, extending the lead back out to, 8-21.
Alvarado delivered a kill in front of Clawson, but Olton would tip a ball out of bounds, making the score, 9-22. Wood sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline, but Ruiz touched the net on a tip attempt, pushing the lead to, 10- 23. Gonzalez delivered a kill in front of the Shallowater block attempt, but Buckley answered with a kill to making the score, 11-24. Buckley would close out the set with a kill off of Alyssa Rivera, as Shallowater took set one, 11-25.
In set two, Shallowater jumped out to an, 1-11, lead, before Wood had a serve land out of bounds on the sideline, turning the serve over to Olton. A kill by Buckley was tipped out of bounds by Olton, but Ruiz responded, tipped the net for a kill to make the score, 3-12. Gonzalez delivered a tip off of Buckley for a kill and Shallowater was called for a carry on the next play, trimming the lead to, 5-12.
Ramirez’s next serve was tipped out of bounds by Shallowater, but the rally ended when a double-hit was called on Olton, making the score, 6-13. A return off of the serve from Shallowater by Alvarado landed out of bounds on the sideline, sparking a fourpoint rally, before they sent a serve sailing out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 7-17.
Clawson delivered a kill off of Gonzalez’s block attempt, but Smith responded with a tip over a pair of Shallowater blockers for a kill, making the score, 8-18. A serve from Ruiz landed out of bounds and Emie Lusk delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Smith, making the score, 8-20. A kill attempt from Shallowater landed out of bounds on the sideline, but Clawson responded with a kill off of HalleeKate Huguley, stretching their lead to, 9-21.
McGuire followed it up with a kill off of the block attempt by Gallegos, but Shallowater was called for stepping over the serve line on the next play, giving the serve back to Olton with the score, 10-22. Alvarado responded with a kill in front of a pair of Shallowater blockers and Olton was awarded a point on the next play, cutting the lead to, 13-22.
Shallowater, though, would close out the set with three consecutive points to take set two, 13-25, and the match, 0-2.
