The Sudan Hornets’ varsity baseball team swept the Petersburg Buffalos last week, taking game one, 18-0, on Tuesday, and game two on Saturday, 13-1.
With the wins, the Hornets improve to 7-4 overall on the year.
In game one, Caleb Groetken pitched a one-hit shutout, giving up just one walk, while earning six punch outs.
At the plate, Groetken led the way with two homeruns, a double and six RBI’s while Kincaid Boehning tallied a homerun and four RBI’s. Julian Salas tallied one hit, one walk and two RBI’s, while Cal Carter, Aybran Granados and Eric Rosa each drove in a run as well.
In game two, Carter pitched four innings for the Hornets, giving up one hit, two walks and one run, while striking out nine batters. Kyler Edwards pitched one inning earning one strike out.
At the plate, Salas finished with five RBI’s and two hits including a homerun, while Groetken and Carter each drew three walks. Jaibryn Ornelas tallied two hits including a double and two RBI’s, while Granados added two hits including a double and one RBI.
The Hornets were at Nazareth on Saturday to take on the Swifts. Results were not available at press time. They will be back in action on Tuesday for a district match-up at Hale Center.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
