Wildcats go 2-1 at Post Tournament

The Littlefield Wildcats were at Post for a Tournament this past weekend, where they went 2-1.

The Wildcats improve to 2-2 overall on the year.

In their first game on Friday, the Wildcats held off Big Spring 2-1.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, as Jakob Kirkland hit a sacrifice grounder to second base to score Major McNeese and advance Ian Mendez to third, putting them in front, 1-0. Mendez would score on a past ball to make the score, 2-0, before Bradyn Redman struck out swinging to end the inning.

Gabriel Villanueva gave up a walk in the top of the third, as Big Spring cut into the lead to make the score, 2-1, but Villanueva would get Mansell to strike out swinging to retire the side. The Wildcats would keep the Steers off the board the rest of the game to get the, 2-1, victory.

Villanueva pitched four innings for the Wildcats, giving up three hits, two walks and one run, while earning three strike outs. Redman pitched the final two innings, earning two punch outs.

At the plate, Jakob Kirkland was 0-2 with an RBI, while McNeese and Mendez each drew a walk and scored a run. Redman and Chip Green were each 1-2 in the contest.

In their first game Saturday morning the Wildcats took on Coahoma, taking the contest, 110, behind a perfect game from McNeese on the mound.

McNeese threw a complete game, earning 12 strikeouts in the contest.

At the plate, Dawson Adkins was 2-4 with a double, three RBI’s and he score two runs. McNeese was 2-4 with an RBI and scored three runs, while Adam MacDonald and Green each recorded a double and an RBI, as well as each scoring a run. Jakob Kirkland and Jayden Kirkland each recorded an RBI.

In their final game of the tournament on Saturday, the Wildcats fell to the Merkell Badgers, 10-5.

Mendez started the game giving up three runs and three walks. Green came on in relief and pitched 2.0 innings, giving up thre hits and two runs, one earned, while earning one strikeout. McNeese pitched one inning, giving up one walk, while earning two strikeouts and Villanueva pitched 0.1 innings, giving up two hits, two walks and five runs, one earned, while earning one punch out. Redman and Macdonald each pitched 0.1 innings as well.
