The Olton Mustang’s varsity basketball team got out in front of Sudan on Tuesday and never looked back, taking the contest, 79-28.
With the win, the Mustangs improve to 17-4 overall, 1-1 in district play, while the Hornets fall to 8-11 overall, 1-1 in district play.
Olton poured in 24 points in the opening quarter, while holding the Hornets to just four points, going into quarter number two. In the second frame, Olton outscored the Hornets, 10-8, to take a, 34-12, lead into the locker room at halftime.
Olton came out hot to begin the second half, outscoring Sudan, 212, to take a, 55-14, lead into the final quarter of play. They poured in 24 points in the final frame to take the contest over Sudan, 7928.
The Hornets were led in scoring by Jaibryn Ornelas, who finished with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Aspen Reyher tallied eight points, two rebounds and one block. Brian Delgado added three points and six rebounds, while Marcello King finished with two points and one steal.
The Mustangs were led by John Cooper, who finished with 18 points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Alan Vasquez chipped in 14 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal, and Brady Azam contributed 12 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Raymond Ramirez tallied nine points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block, while Wyatt Nelson contributed eight points, two rebounds and two assists, and Sebastian Sparkman added seven points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals. Zayden Falcon chipped in seven points, four rebounds and two assists, while Matias Flores added four points, three assists and two rebounds, and Santi Jimenez finished with five rebounds, five assists and two steals.
The Mustangs were at Farwell on Friday, while the Hornets hosted Hale Center. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with the Mustangs hosting Bovina and Sudan hosting Lockney.
