Nettes take down Bovina, 64-40, in first meeting

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team took down the Bovina Fillies at home on Friday, 64-40, in district play.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 15-9 overall, 2-1 in district play.

The Nettes came out on fire with a 21 point outing in the first quarter. They outscored the Fillies, 16-9, in the second frame to take a, 37-16, lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter both teams netted 13 points, but in the final frame, Sudan outscored the Fillies, 14-11, to take the contest, 64-40.

The Nettes were led by Addison Cornelius, who tallied 15 points, four rebounds and one assist, while Edette Herrera chipped in 13 points, 10 assists, seven steals and four rebounds, and Emry Humphreys contributed 11 points, four rebounds and two steals. Haylee Toscano contributed 10 points, one rebound and one steal, while Lexi Jennings tallied four points, one rebound, one assist and one steal.

Andrea Williams added three points, six rebounds and one assist, while Kalissa Harris chipped in three points and four rebounds, and Journey Baker contributed three points, two rebounds and one steal. Raquel Armendariz finished with two points and one steal.

The Nettes were at Olton to take on the Fillies on Tuesday as district play continued. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Friday with a home game against Hale Center.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
