Wildcats go 3-0 to close out Farwell Tournament

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team went 3-0 over the final two days of the Farwell Invitational, finishing the tournament 4-0.

The Wildcats improve to 8-4 on the season heading into district play.

In their first game on Friday against Portales, the Wildcats took down the Rams, 60-37.

Kam McCarty led the team in scoring with 18 points, to go along with seven rebound one assist and one block, while Chip Green tallied 15 points, five steals, two rebounds and one assist, and Ryan Williams tallied 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and one steal.

Nate Castaneda contributed six points, five rebounds and one assist, while Jayden Barrio added four points, four assists, three rebounds and one steal, and Jose Payan tallied three points and two rebounds.

In their second game on Friday, the Wildcats battled with the host team, taking down the Farwell Steers, 55-49.

McCarty led the way for the Wildcats with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Chip Green contributed 17 points, three rebounds and two assists. Barrio tallied nine points, three rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal, while Williams chipped in nine points, two rebounds and two assists.

Andrew Davis added two points and two rebounds, while Castaneda finished with 14 rebounds, one point, one steal and one block.

In the Championship game against Panhandle on Saturday, the Wildcats defeated the Panthers, 68-54.

They were led by Barrio, who tallied 23 points, four assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block, while Castaneda chipped in 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and one block, and McCarty contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal.

Green tallied five points, four assists, three steals and two rebounds, while Williams chipped in five points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal, and Davis added two points, three rebounds and one assist. Caden Reyes finished with two points in the contest.

The Wildcats opened district play on Tuesday at Slaton. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Friday when they host Shallowater.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
