The Sudan Hornets’ varsity basketball team picked up a win on Friday when they took down the Sundown Roughnecks, 46-37.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 5-6 overall on the year.
Sundown took an early lead, 1611, through the first quarter, but Sudan bounced back in quarter number two, outscoring Sundown, 11-6, to tie the game, 22-22, going into the locker room at halftime.
Sudan would pour in 19 points in the third quarter to take a, 4128, lead into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, Sundown dropped in nine points, but it was not enough as Sudan held on for the victory, 46-37.
Jaibryn Ornelas led the team posting a double-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and one block, while Aspen Reyher chipped in eight points, nine rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block.
Brian Delgado tallied six points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Marcello King contributed five points, one rebound, one steal and one block. Andrew Larson finished with one point, two rebounds and one steal.
The Hornets were at Kress to take on the Kangaroos on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season after Christmas when they take part in the Wildcat Classic.
