The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity football team fell on senior night to Idalou, 58- 22, at Wildcat Stadium in Littlefield.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 5- 4 overall, 1- 2 in district play.
Idalou got a big return from Jenson Davis, who took the ball up to their own 34- yard line for Idalou’s first offensive possession. A series of runs from Gentry Pounds and Kutter Houchin set them up with first and 10 at their own 44- yard line, but a false start penalty backed them up to first and 15 at their own 39- yard line.
AJ Huddleston picked up six yards on a run up the middle on first down and Houchin connected with Pounds on a pass on the next play, taking the ball into Littlefield territory, down to the 42- yard line to set up first down. A big first- down run by Pounds set Idalou up with first and goal from the four-yard line and two plays later, Peytan Moyers carried it up the middle for a seven- yard score with 8: 33 to play in the opening quarter. The PAT by Colton Hurst was good, putting them in front, 70.
Littlefield got the ball at their own 25- yard line after a short return on the kick-off from Ian Mendez.
Littlefield marched down the field, taking the ball all the way down to the Idalou six- yard line, but on fourth and goal, Chip Green had the ball stripped out and it was recovered by Eizeah Coleman, but the play resulted in a turnover on downs with 5: 05 to play in the first quarter.
The Littlefield defense would tighten up on Idalou’s second possession, as they forced a three-and-out, forcing Idalou to punt the ball away from their own 11- yard line. During the return, Green was hit late, bringing the ball down to the Idalou 22- yard line to set up first and 10 for Littlefield.
Mendez carried the ball on first down, taking it around the right side, down to the oneyard line to set up first and goal. Green would punch it in on the next play and Adam MacDonald followed it up with the PAT to tie the game, 7- 7, with 3: 07 to play in the quarter.
Idalou began their next drive at their own 44- yard line, but after taking the ball across midfield back- to- back penalties and a stop on third and long by Jakob Kirkland and Caden Reyes forced them to punt the ball away to begin the second quarter.
Littlefield took over at their own 20- yard line, but after a facemask penalty on Idalou gave them a fresh set of downs, they went three- and- out punting the ball away from the Idalou 47-yard line with 10:09 to play in the first half.
Davis gave Idalou a big return, as Idalou took the field in Littlefield territory to begin their next drive.
Two plays later, Pounds broke loose up the middle for a 47-yard touchdown run with 9: 50 to play in the half. The PAT by Hurst was good, making the score, 14- 7.
Littlefield had nothing going on their next offensive possession and a bad snap on the punt was covered by Mendez at their own three-yard line, as Idalou took over on offense.
They would punch it in on the first play of the drive with a run by Moyers with 8: 08 to play in the half. The PAT by Hurst was off the left post, leaving the score, 20- 7.
Littlefield took over on offense at their own 34-yard line after the kick- off, but after getting into Idalou territory, Green was stripped on third down by Moyers, who also recovered the fumble for a turnover for Idalou with 6: 05 to play in the half.
Littlefield’s defense would bow their necks and force a three- and- out, forcing Houchin to punt the ball away with 3:48 remaining in the half. The ball was downed by Idalou at the one- yard line.
Green and the Littlefield offense came out looking to get out of their own endzone, but on first down, Green was sacked for a safety by Idalou with 3:41 to play in the second quarter, pushing the lead to, 22-7.
Idalou would close out the first half with a 29- yard field goal by Hurst, making the score, 25- 7, going into the locker room at halftime.
Littlefield turned the ball over on downs to begin the second half and Idalou needed just four plays to find the endzone on their next possession, as Huddleston capped off the drive with a five- yard touchdown run with 9: 04 to play in the third quarter. Hurst nailed the PAT to make the score, 31-7.
Littlefield would respond with 3: 30 left to play in the third quarter, as Green scored on a seven- yard touchdown run around the left side. He kept it himself for the twopoint conversion to trim the lead to, 31-15.
The onside kick attempt by Mendez was fielded by Pounds at their own 44- yard line. Idalou would march 56 yards, capping off the drive with an 18- yard touchdown run by Houchin making the score, 3815, with 2: 19 remaining in the third quarter.
After a Littlefield punt, Houchin would open the fourth quarter with a 28- yard touchdown run to add on to their lead with 11:18 left to play in the game. The PAT was good from Hurst, making the score, 15-45, Littlefield got the ball back on offense at their own 29-yard line and they were able to take it up near midfield, before Green was picked off on third down by Kamdon Lutrick with 9:59 remaining.
Idalou would turn the turnover into points, as Houchin called his own number on third and one, taking it up the left side for a 57- yard touchdown run with 7: 31 remaining. The PAT was good, stretching the lead to, 52-15.
Littlefield took over at their own 29-yard line, in desperate need of some momentum on offense and they were able to find it, as they marched down the field, capping off the drive with an eight- yard touchdown run by Green with 2:53 remaining. MacDonald’s PAT was good, making the score, 52-22.
Idalou got the ball back after the kick-off at their own 30yard line and on first down, Huddleston broke loose on a run to the right side, taking it 70 yards for the score. The PAT was no good leaving the score, 58-22, with 2:35 remaining.
The kick-off was fumbled by Zane Champion and recovered by Idalou.
Idalou would kill the clock with a series of kneel downs, as Littlefield fell, 58-22.
The Wildcats will be at Roosevelt on Friday to close out the regular season.
Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
