Lady Cats fall at home to Childress, 0-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell to the Childress Lady Cats last Saturday, 0-3; 18-25, 13-25 and 23-25.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 16-12 overall, 1-3 in district play.

Childress jumped out to an, 02, lead to begin set one, before a save by Kaydence Simpkins landed out of bounds, making the score, 1-2. Journey Prince had a kill tipped out of bounds by Littlefield, but Myli Hernandez answered back with a kill off of the block attempt by Prince, trimming the lead to, 2-3.

Prince delivered a kill for Childress, before her next serve fell short of the net, keeping it a one-point game, 3-4. Maggie McNeese sent a kill sailing out of bounds, but Nevaeh Lopez responded with a kill on the next play for Littlefield to make the score, 4-5. Cali Saldana sent a kill sailing out of bounds on the sideline and McNeese was blocked by Ava Everage for a kill, pushing their lead to, 4-7. Lopez mistimed a tip at the net and Littlefield was called for four hits on the following play, stretching the Childress lead to, 4-9.

Simpkins had a serve dug out by Madi Brown, but the ball floated over the net and landed out of bounds, as Littlefield called for a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Everage sent a kill past McNeese’s block attempt and Lopez sent a hit short of the net, pushing the lead to, 4-12.

Lopez, on the next play, was called for touching the net during a block attempt, but the rally ended when Simpkins sent a serve short of the net to trim the lead to, 5-13. Faith Foster scored a kill off of Cali Saldana and Lopez dug out a ball, but it floated over the net and landed out of bounds, making the score, 5-15.

Littlefield would respond, as Cali Saldana delivered a kill off of Foster and Prince’s block attempt and Brown followed it up with an ace on the sideline, before sending her next serve out of bounds, making the score, 7-16. Prince delivered a kill in front of Brown on the next play, as Littlefield took another time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, Cali Saldana delivered a kill off of the partial block by Avery Keys and Gabby Medina followed it up with four consecutive aces to get Littlefield back in the match, cutting the lead to, 12-17. Childress took a time out to slow down the building momentum for Littlefield, and out of the break, Prince was called for touching the net on a tip, cutting the lead to, 13-17.

Keys touched the net on a block attempt, and each team sent a serve short of the net, before Prince sent a kill past Brown to make the score, 15-19. Bri Valdez dropped a tip off of Simpkins for a kill, but Childress answered dropping in a tip of their own for a kill, pushing the lead to, 16-20.

Everage scored a hit off of Lopez for a kill and Addie Baize served up an ace off of Tailyn Gomez to stretch their lead to, 1622. McNeese sent a kill out of bounds on the sideline and Baize scored a kill off of the save attempt from Gomez, extending their lead to, 16-24. Everage touched the net on a tip battle with Cobi Saldana and Cali Saldana followed it up with a kill that was tipped out of bounds by Emma Jalomo, trimming the lead to, 18-24.

Childress would close out the set with a kill off of McNeese’s block attempt by Everage, as they took the set, 18-25.

Childress opened set two on an, 0- 6, scoring run, before Cali Saldana delivered a kill off of Angelica Torres to make the score, 16. Childress answered with backto- back points, before Cobi Saldana delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Prince, trimming the lead to, 2-8.

Alyssa Torres sent a serve short of the net and Prince served up an ace off of Torres, before sending her next serve into the net, making the score, 3-10. Jalomo sent a hit into the net for Childress and Valdez followed it up with an ace off of Jalomo, cutting the lead to, 5-10. A tip by Sophie Stephens was killed in the back corner of the court by Hernandez, but Childress responded, as Everage dropped a tip in front of Brown for a kill.

Alyssa Torres sent a hit out of bounds for Littlefield, but Baize’s next serve landed out of bounds, making the score, 7-12. Everage sent a tip past McNeese for a kill and Lopez was called for a doublehit on the next play, stretching the Childress lead back out to, 7-14. Simpkins served up an ace in front of Gomez and Littlefield had a tip land out of bounds, making the score, 7-16, as they took a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, Cali Saldana delivered a kill, but they couldn’t get a rally going, as Cobi Saldana had a tip land out of bounds, making the score, 8-17. Foster delivered a kill off of Cali Saldana and Cobi Saldana sent a hit into the net, stretching the lead to, 8-19. The Lady Cats couldn’t get anything going, as Cali Saldana sent another hit into the net, making the score, 8-20, as Littlefield took another time out.

Out of the break, Angelica Torres served up an ace off of Gomez, but on the next play, Prince was blocked by McNeese for a kill and Bryndle Ray followed it up with an ace for Littlefield, cutting the lead to, 10- 21. Cobi Saldana dropped in a tip over the block attempt by Foster, but Foster responded with a kill on the following play, making the score, 11-22.

Ray had a tip land out of bounds, but Childress couldn’t close it out, as Prince sent a hit out of bounds as well, making the score, 12-23. Madi Williams tipped a ball out of bounds, but Brown delivered a kill off of Angelica Torres for a kill, making the score, 13-24. Alyssa Torres, though, would send the following serve sailing out of bounds, as Childress took set two, 13-25, putting them in front, 0-2, in the match.

Brown got set three started with an ace off of Simpkins, but Prince answered with a kill to tie the set, 1-1. Hernandez sent a kill past Simpkins in the back row to regain the serve for Littlefield and on the next play, Prince was blocked by Hernandez for a kill stretching the lead to, 3-1.

Foster sent a hit out of bounds for Childress and Alyssa Torres followed it up with an ace off of Simpkins, pushing the lead to, 51. Littlefield’s rally continued as Childress sent a hit into the net and it was followed up with a block by Hernandez on Prince for a kill, forcing Childress to take a time out trailing, 7-1.

Out of the break, Childress would score three consecutive points, before Jalomo sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 8-4. Valdez served up an ace off of Angelica Torres and Hernandez followed it up with a kill off of Jalomo, pushing their lead to, 104.

McNeese was blocked by Prince for a kill to end Littlefield’s rally, but on the next play, Valdez dropped in a tip off of Prince for a kill to push their lead to, 11-5. Childress, though, would rally back and tie the set, 12-12, after a hit by Cobi Saldana didn’t make it over the net.

McNeese delivered a kill in front of Jalomo, but the next serve by Ray landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 13-13. The teams went back-and-forth until Everage dropped in a kill on the back line to make the score, 18-19. the play sparked a fivepoint rally for Childress that ended when Baize sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 19-23.

Cobi Saldana dropped in a tip in front of Simpking for a kill and Medina served up an ace off of Jalomo and Stephens, cutting the lead to, 21-23. Everage sent a hit into the net, but Childres would close out the set with back-toback points to take set three, 2325, and the match, 0-3.
