Lady Cats cruise past Tahoka, 3-0

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team made quick work of the Tahoka Lady Dogs on Saturday, taking them down in three sets, 25-11, 25-13, 25-9.

With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 14-7 overall on the season.

Madi Brown got the first set going with an ace and Grace Reglin hit a ball out of bounds on the sideline on the next play, putting Littlefield in front, 2-0. Brown sent a serve out of bounds, but Tahoka couldn’t capitalize, as Keeli Chrestman was called for being on the net on the next play, making the score, 3-1.

Baylie Harris hit a ball into the net for Tahoka and Myli Hernandez followed it up with a kill off of the set from Bri Valdez, pushing their lead to, 5-1. Cali Saldana’s next serve went un-returned, but a long break by Tahoka on the next play was mistimed on a kill attempt by Cobi Saldana, making the score, 6-2.

Jackie Garcia had a kill tipped out of bounds by Cali Saldana, but Cobi Saldana answered for Littlefield, dropping in a kill on the back line to make the score, 7-3. Madi Williams served up an ace off of Calgary Due, but Hernandez was blocked by Harris for a kill, trimming the lead to, 8-4.

Ramy Scott was called for a double-hit, but Gabby Medina’s serve sailed out of bounds, turning it right back over to the Lady Dogs. A hit into the net by Cobi Saldana forced a four-hit call on Littlefield, but Tahoka was unable to capitalize on the play, as Garcia sent a hit into the net, making the score, 10-6.

Back- to- back miscues by Tahoka made the score, 12-6, as they took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Alyssa Torres served up an ace off of Leah Stice, before sending her next serve out of bounds to make the score, 13-7. Scott dropped in a tip for a kill, and the Lady Cats sent a tip into the net on the next play, cutting the lead to, 13-9.

Reglin sent a hit into the net to end the run for Tahoka, and Valdez followed it up with an ace off of Due, stretching the lead to, 15-9. Garcia mistimed a hit and Scott hit a ball short of the net on the following play, pushing the lead to, 17-9. Kendra Garcez delivered a kill off of Tailyn Gomez, but they Lady Dogs were called for being on the net giving the point to Littlefield.

Tahoka would respond, as Cali Saldana was blocked by Reglin for a kill, but Littlefield answered, as Lyric Rios delivered a kill in front of Garcez to make the score, 19-10, as they regained the serve. The Lady Cats couldn’t take advantage, as Brown sent her serve sailing out of bounds to trim the lead to, 19-11.

Cali Saldana delivered a kill off of the set from Valdez and backto- back miscues from Tahoka made the score, 22-11. Hernandez kept it going with a kill off of the set from Valdez and Cobi Saldana followed it up with a kill, pushing the lead to, 24-11. Cali Saldana’s serve went un-returned to close out the set, 25-11, as Littlefield went up 1-0 in the match.

Littlefield went up, 4-0, to begin set two, after back-to-back kills from Hernandez, but Tahoka would respond, as Chrestman delivered a kill to get the Lady Dogs on the board. Cali Saldana dropped a tip over Harris and Garcia for a kill and Hernandez followed it up with a block for a kill to stretch their lead to, 6-1.

Teagan Miller and Chrestman each sent a serve short of the net, and Harris delivered a kill off of Williams to trim the lead to, 7-3. Tahoka would deliver back-toback kills to cut the lead to, 7-5, before Maggie McNeese dropped in a tip off of Due for a kill. Hernandez followed it up with an ace, before sending a serve short of the net, making the score, 9-6.

Tahoka dropped a tip inside the back boundary line for a kill, but they were called for four hits on the next play, making the score, 10-7. Garcez was blocked by McNeese for a kill, but Torres’ next serve sailed out of bounds to make the score, 11-8. Tahoka could not capitalize on the turnover, as Kylie Ramos sent a serve sailing out of bounds, giving the serve back to the Lady Cats.

Rios scored a kill off of Due, before her kill attempt on the next play landed out of bounds, making the score, 13- 9. Garcez couldn’t get her kill to fall, as it landed out of bounds and Brown served up an ace off of Ramos, pushing the lead to, 15-9. A tip by Valdez was hit into the net by Scott and a long save from Hernandez fell in for a kill, extending their lead to, 17-9.

Brown had a serve go un-returned by Tahoka and the Lady Cats picked up a kill on the next play, making the score, 19-9. The rally ended when a serve from Brown landed out of bounds, but Hernandez responded for the Lady Cats with a kill inside the back boundary line, pushing their lead to, 20-10, as Tahoka took a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, a serve from Miller fell short of the net, but Cobi Saldana would drop a kill inside the back line and Harris hit a ball into the net on the following play, making the score, 22-11. Scott had her hit blocked by McNeese, but the ball landed out of bounds for a Tahoka point.

Due sent a serve out of bounds and Hernandez followed it up with an ace off of Stice, before sending her next serve short of the net to make the score, 24- 13. Cobi Saldana would close out set two with a kill, as Littlefield took the set, 25-13, going up 2-0 in the match.

Garcez delivered a kill on the sideline to open set three, but the following serve from Reglin fell short of the net, tying the set, 1-1. Due hit a ball into the net for Tahoka and Hernandez delivered a kill over Due on the back line to push their lead to, 3-1. Chrestman had a tip fall in front of Brown for a kill, but Williams dropped in a tip off of Stice for a kill and the return from Due off of the serve from Williams landed out of bounds, making the score, 5-2.

Cobi Saldana sent a kill sailing out of bounds, but the Lady Cats quickly regained the serve, as Hernandez dropped in a tip off of Harris for a kill, stretching the lead to, 6-3. Hernandez kept the rally going with an ace off of Addison Braddock and McNeese tipped the net with a hit for a kill in front of Chrestman, pushing their lead to, 8-3.

Hernandez would serve up an ace and Garcia sent a hit into the net on the following play to push the lead to, 10-3, but a save attempt from Cali Saldana landed out of bounds and Rios sent a kill sailing out of bounds on the next play to cut the lead to 10-5.

Due sent a serve out of bounds for Tahoka, turning it over to Littlefield and Scott hit a ball into the net on the next play, making the score, 12-5. A miscue by Tahoka and a kill in front of Chrestman from Rios forced Tahoka to take a time out, trailing, 14-5. Out of the break, Torres served up an ace and Stice’s return on the next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 16-5.

McNeese sent a kill out of bounds for the Lady Cats and Williams hit a ball into the net, before Garcez delivered a tip for a kill to cut the lead to, 16-8. However, Cali Saldana would end the rally with a tip off of Chrestman for a kill, as Littlefield regained the serve. Reglin was called for being on the net on back-to-back plays and Garcia sent a hit short of the net, extending the lead to, 20-8.

Cali Saldana delivered a kill for the Lady Cats, but Valdez’s next serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 21-9. Cali Saldana would tip the net for a kill and Monica Elizondo followed it up with a tip off of Garcia for a kill, making the score, 23-9. Hernandez delivered a kill off of Due and Brown closed out the set with an ace off of Due, making the score, 25-9, as Littlefield took the match, 3-0.

The Lady Cats hosted Lubbock Christian on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Saturday at home against Loop.
