Don’t Worry About a Thing ...

Good morning friends and family. The other day I came across this video that I’ve seen before, it is a wholesome video of a child singing a song. I gotta tell you that it always brings joy to my heart, especially hearing it come from an innocent and pure soul like a child. In the video, the little boy is singing a popular song. It’s a song that I think many of you have heard before. It is a song that has given me a sense of comfort many times.

The song is titled - Three Little Birds by “Bob Marley” The first line In this song says

“Don’t Worry about a thing, Every Little thing is gonna be alright” It’s refreshing to sing a song like this. But despite the cheerful lyrics, the truth is, we do worry right? We worry about all sorts of things.

WE WORRY ABOUT BIG THINGS: We worry about things like relationships (whether it be with God, or with others), we worry about having a safe place to live, we worry about our health, we worry about the bills, and we worry about whether or not we will have enough money to take care of our needs.

WE ALSO WORRY ABOUT LITTLE THINGS: We worry about whether we are having a good or bad hair day, we worry about what to wear, we worry about whether it’s going to be cold, hot, windy or rainy. And guess what, if we didn’t have anything to worry about, then we’d find something to worry about won’t we?

So a song that says, “Don’t worry about a thing” may be easy and fun to sing, and may bring a sense of happiness for the moment, but it's not an easy thing to actually live without worry on a dayto- day basis. The reality is that on a day-to-day basis we do worry about all kinds of things, and that worry can affect us spiritually, emotionally, and even physically! Worry causes sickness, depression, and has the ability to cause severe trauma.

That is not God’s desire or plan for any one of His children at all!

It’s easy to look at someone and say to them -“don’t worry about a thing, because every little thing is gonna be alright.” But it’s even better to give somebody the tools that Jesus Christ provided in His word. The words he gives us help us win the war over worrying! (Matthew 6:24-34 NIV) 24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Wow! This is such a beautiful and powerful passage. There is so much to unpack here, but one of the greatest truths that we can take from this entire passage is this – God wants our full attention and; devotion. Kingdom priority is key that’s why He says in verse 33: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, If we choose to keep God first and in the center of our lives, God is faithful to not ever let us lack, but instead He will provide us all that we need to live for Him and to serve Him well in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen!

This passage speaks of Father God’s love, His provision, and His protection. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like something to shout hallelujah about!

So, should we really “not worry about a thing?” according to Jesus, the answer is YES Through Christ Jesus we can live worry free lives! If He and His will are our priority in lives, then we can also say that YES, in Christ - “Everything IS gonna be alright”.

Dear friends, we have an awesome God that was, that is, and that will always be faithful in His is promises. I do pray that you were as blessed as I was.

With Love, Your brother in Christ, Pastor Billy Montes.
