Sudan falls to Broncos in game two, 9-2

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity baseball team dropped game two of their 3A Area Play-off series with Clarendon on Friday, 9-2, in Floydada.

With the loss, the Hornets’ season comes to an end with a mark of 19-9 overall.

Sudan scratched a run across in the bottom of the second to take a, 1-0, lead, but Clarendon answered with two runs in the third and four in the top of the fourth to push their lead to, 7-1, going into the fifth inning.

Sudan would add a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Broncos would again answer with two runs in the top of the sixth and one in the seventh to take the contest, 9-2.

At the plate, the Hornets garnered two hits as a team, led by Jaibryn Ornelas, who had a triple. Trent Wilson finished with two walks and an RBI, while Cal Carter also drew two walks in the contest. Derek Rosa had the Hornets other hit in the contest.

Groetken started on the mound, pitching 5.2 inning, giving up eight hits, three walks and eight runs, four earned, while earning five strike outs. Derek Rosa pitched 1.1 innigns, giving up one unearned run.
