Wildcats take down Dimmit in non-district action, 18-8

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team took down the Dimmitt Bobcats on Saturday in non-district action, 18-8, in five innings at Wildcat Field.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 6-5 overall on the year.

Dimmitt jumped ahead early, as they scratched three runs across in the top of the first inning. Littlefield got one run back in both the bottom of the first and second innings, trimming the lead to, 3-2, going into the third inning.

The Bobcats added four runs in the top of the third, but the Wildcat offense would explode in the homehalf of the inning for 12 runs, making the score, 14-7, going into the fourth inning.

Littlefield blanked the Bobcats in the top of the fourth inning, while adding a run in the bottom half to make the score, 15-7, going into the fifth inning. Littlefield would out score the Bobcats, 3-1, in the bottom of the fifth to take the run-rule victory over Dimmitt,18-8.

Senior, Isaiah Rodriguez, pitched two innings for the Wildcats giving up six hits, two walks and five runs, four earned, while earning two strikeouts. Junior, Ian Mendez, pitched three innings, givin u three hits, three walks and three runs, one earned, while earning two strikeouts.

At the plate, the Wildcats totaled 23 hits as a team, led by senior, Brenden Bowman, who tallied four RBI’s and two hits, both of which were doubles.

Senior, Markus Rosales, tallied two RBI’s and three hits including a double, while junior, Bradyn Redman, chipped in one RBI, one hit for a double and one walk and senior, Gabe Montalvo, contributed two RBI’s and one hit.

The Wildcats hosted Estacado on Tuesday for their final non-district contest. Results were not available at press time. They will open district play on Tuesday, March 26th with a home game against Brownfield.

First-pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
