Mustangs take down Greyhounds in Area round, 49-43

The Olton Mustang’s varsity basketball team punched their ticket to the Class 2A Regional Quarterfinals on Friday with a, 4943, victory over the Gruver Greyhounds at Caprock High School.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 22-11 overall.

Olton trailed 22-19 at the half, but the Mustangs were able to battle back in the second half to take the contest, 49-43.

Nate Urbina led the team in scoring with 16 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Sebastian Sparkman tallied 14 points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal, and Jimmy Munoz tallied six points, two steals and one rebound.

Raymond Ramirez chipped in five points and three rebounds, while Alan Vasquez contributed five points, eight rebounds and one assist, Wyatt Nelson added three points and three rebounds and Johnathan Cooper finished with three rebounds in the contest.

The Mustangs battled with the Clarendon Broncos on Tuesday night at Caprock High School for a trip to the 2A Regional Tournament. Results were not available at press time.
